The participants can choose from a range of exciting topics from different fields such as architecture and urban studies, art and design, technology and the environment. Students also have the option of attending the intensive language program which offers of choice of beginner and advanced courses in German or English. Ever since the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has begun to host summer courses, the German courses have enjoyed an ever increasing amount of popularity. »This is certainly due, at least in part, to the fact that no other city is capable of creating such an exciting and varied combination of language instruction and German culture and history like we can here in Weimar,« says Daniela Raddi, head of the Bauhaus Summer School.
The two-week English language courses are also an integral part of the Bauhaus Summer School program. The architecture and art seminars are particularly popular among the students. The specialized courses program varies year to year: »We are excited that many of our well-known lecturers are returning to work with us again and we also enjoy the flux of new faces year to year. This allows for many more interesting course concepts to arise than we would normally be able to accommodate in our program,« Daniel Raddi explains.
The Viennese director, Belinda Rukschcio, will be joining us for the second time around. She will be offering a course entitled »Architecture & Urbanism in Film« together with the editor and cameraman, Steffen Krämer. Participants in this course will learn all the steps involved in short-film production and then have the chance to apply their new knowledge during a project based on a self-chosen topic. Rukschcio´s own film »Precise Poetry« serves as a source of inspiration and will one of the chosen films which the international students can go see at the mon ami movie theater.
Recreational activities have also been arranged for our international guests: Many of them use their stay to familiarize themselves with the Bauhaus-UniversitätWeimar. During the student tours of the campus, all four departments are presented and a general student advisory service is offered so that by the end of the tour participants know all the important points necessary for the admission to a degree program. Beyond the campus, the summer school has a lot more to offer. International students can choose from a variety of excursions – whether they would like to spend a weekend in Berlin or maybe learn more about the Bauhaus by visiting Dessau. If they are more intrigued by non-academic encounters with other participants, they can take the opportunity to participate in various athletic activities, group dinners or game nights. The cultural program is rounded off by special tours offered bythe Klassik Stiftung Weimar. Regardless of whether it is the Liszt House or the historical wing of the city’s castle, which brings the musical culture of the 18th and 19th century to life, all doors are wide open to the guests of the Bauhaus Summer School.
The parties that accompany the Bauhaus Summer School have become a tradition which offers the participants a chance to enjoy the long summer nights in a relaxed atmosphere. The »Bonvena« kick-off partyon the 3rd of August and the »Bauhaus Got Talent Show« in mid-August often lay down the foundation for intercultural friendships that will endure well beyond these four weeks in August.
