Invitation to the »Bauhaus Psychologie – Workshop mit Robert Wilson«

On Thursday, 24 August 2023, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s bauhaus.medien.bühnen Lab, together with Kunstfest Weimar, invites you to a workshop with theatre director, visual artist and architect Robert Wilson. Held in the university’s Oberlichtsaal, the event will provide participants with the opportunity to explore the content and perspectives of Bauhaus psychology through lectures, film screenings and discussion panels.

The »Bauhaus Pädagogik« is something often spoken about and referred to. Hardly anything, however, is known about Bauhaus psychology. But it is critical to examine the subjective side of architecture and design — especially today, a time of digital excitement, post pandemic exhaustion, and in the face of the stagnant fight against the climate crisis.

The workshop will explore the intricacies of the reception of »Bauhaus Psychologie«, as well as its application in association with Bauhaus Master Gertrud Grunow. A discussion will be held with Robert Wilson, in which the contents of this psychology will be explored and its contents discussed. A key question is what role the body, its movements and its energies play and how a theory of balance based on this can be applied today in architecture, art, dance, theatre and film.

The workshop is organised by the bauhaus.medien.bühnen Lab in cooperation with Kunstfest Weimar during the Bauhaus Weeks. It is part of the anniversary programme celbrating 100 years since the first Bauhaus Exhibition in 1923. Contributors include Robert Wilson (theatre director, visual artist, architect), Henning Schmidgen (psychologist and media theorist, professor of »Medientheorie und Wissenschaftsgeschichte« at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar), Jenny Brockmann (artist, scientific employee at the Departmen of »Medientheorie und Wissenschaftsgeschichte«), Ute Ackermann (art historian, curator at the Bauhaus Museum Weimar) and Paulina Olszewska (art scholar, curator at the Galeria Studio Warschau).
