The question how the hydrogen market ramp-up can succeed shaped the exchange at the h2-well annual event. Partners from the alliance highlighted the prospects arising from new hydrogen filling station concepts, the argon power cycle as an alternative to the fuel cell and green powertrain technologies at Deutsche Bahn.
In an open debate, the participants discussed which economic potentials can be raised in Thuringia through the development of a decentralised hydrogen economy. After all, "bringing hydrogen technologies to the region is the goal and mission of the h2-well initiative," said Professor Mark Jentsch from the Chair of Energy Systems at Bauhaus University Weimar, who is in charge of the alliance's scientific coordination. "Above all, we see great potential in using decentralised supply concepts with small, local electrolysis plants as starting points to apply green hydrogen across sectors and on a broad scale. This also gives small and medium-sized enterprises the chance to participate in the value creation and get the H2 home market off the ground." New ideas on how to promote the regional hydrogen transition were brought together by the participants in workshops focusing on H2 project development.
The h2-well annual event 2021 closed with an outlook on new approaches for networked hydrogen mobility, the series production of H2 components and concepts for the application of hydrogen in rural neighbourhoods.
"h2-well" is one of 32 alliances selected by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the funding programme "WIR! - Change through Innovation in the Region" to open up new perspectives and provide sustainable impetus for German regions undergoing structural change.
