Emilia Terodde has now claimed a position in an impressive series: Katharina Thiele (Excellence Award 2023) and Alice Paul (Excellence Award 2024) were honoured in the past for their final theses. The recurring recognition of the remarkable achievements of female graduates highlights the academic quality of the education in the Franco-German EMK degree programme. The programme is jointly offered by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Université Lumière Lyon 2.
In her film and cultural studies research, Emilia Terodde analysed how the Holocaust is depicted in the film The Zone of Interest (USA 2023, Jonathan Glazer). Terodde, who studied at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Université Lumière Lyon 2 from 2020 to 2024, emphasises film’s unique potential as a form of memory. Her thesis succeeded in combining theoretical and historical perspectives while reflecting on current challenges in European media and the culture of memory.
14 Excellence Award recipients were honoured at a festive ceremony held at the French Embassy in Berlin in front of representatives from politics, business, the public, and academia. The awards are presented by German and French businesses and institutions representing various industries. Emilia Terodde's award, endowed with 1,500 euros, is funded by the Franco-German cultural channel Arte G.E.I.E.
