Bauhaus-Universität Weimar University Council Elects New Members

In the Wednesday, 6 April 2022 session, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar University Council elected three new members; Prof. Dr. Karola Wille, Jórunn Ragnarsdóttir and Albert Berger will serve on the Council for a four year term following their appointment by the Ministerium für Wirstschaft, Wissenschaft und Digitale Gesellschaft (TMWWDG). Prof. Dr. Horst-Michael Ludwig was also newly appointed to the Council as an internal member earlier in March this year.

The University Council is made up of eight members: Five external members and two internal members, as well as a representative from the Ministerium für Wirstschaft, Wissenschaft und Digitale Gesellschaft (TMWWDG). The appointment of new members followed the departure of three external University Council members who had resigned for personal reasons.

Architect Jórunn Ragnarsdóttir was born in 1957 in Iceland. After finishing her studies in architecture at the University of Stuttgart, she founded the firm Lederer/Ragnarsdóttir in 1985 and took on teaching posts at various architecture schools. She was a member of design advisory boards in numerous German cities and has belonged to the Burg Giebichenstein Univresity of Art and Design Halle Board of Trustees since 2022. In 2021, she founded the Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Architekten achitecture firm in Berlin.

Prof. Dr. Karola Wille, born in Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz) in 1959, has been Director General of Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) since October 2011. She studied law in Jena and completed her doctoral in 1986. From 2016 to 2017, she took on the role of Chair of ARD in addition to her duties as Director General when MDR took over the leadership of the broadcasting association for the second time. She also represents the ARD on the administrative board and on the German Federal Film Board (FFA) executive committee. Prof. Wille has held an honorary professorship in media law at the University of Leipzig since 2002.

Albert Berger, born in Munich in 1962, has been the Chancellor of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) since 2006. The law graduate has a long history of experience in a wide range of roles and offices in university administration. Alongside his work as Chancellor, Albert Berger has belonged to the board of the TUM Universitätsstiftung since 2010 and has been a member of the Hochschule für Politik München advisory board since 2015. From 2012 until 2015, he was the national spokesperson for Kanzlerinnen und Kanzler der Universitäten Deutschlands (German university chancellors).

Prof. Dr. Horst-Michael Ludwig was born in Weimar in 1962. He studied »Baustoffverfahrenstechnik« at the »Hochschule für Architektur und Bauwesen Weimar« where he also completed his doctorate in 1996. He has held the W3-Professorship in »Werkstoffe des Bauens« (Construction Materials) since November 2009 and is the Director of the F.A. Finger Institute for Building Materials Engineering (FIB) at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. He has also been a member of the Faculty Management in the Faculty of Civil Engineering, serving as Vice Dean since 2015.

Thomas Rabe, Chair of the University Council, is pleased at the outcome of the new member election and congratulates the additions to the Council: »I wish to warmly welcome to Prof. Dr. Karola Wille, Jórunn Ragnarsdóttir, Albert Berger and Prof. Dr.Horst-Michael Ludwig to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar University Council. I look forward to working together with these four new members on the Council, a body which plays a crucial role in the development of the university’s future. We are certain these new members’ rich and diverse experience and expertise will provide the University Council with fresh inspiration.«
