Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Senate elects new University Council

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar's newly formed senate elected a new University Council at its constituent meeting on 2 October 2019. This election was made necessary by the introduction of the new Thuringian Higher Education Act the previous year. All university committees had to be reformed and re-elected.

The University Council is appointed for a term of four years and currently has eight members: the five external and two internal members are joined by a representative of the Thuringian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Science and Digital Society.

The elected members of the future University Council:

Dr. Rainer Ambrosy
Chancellor (retired) of the University of Duisburg-Essen

Peter Gemmeke

Department head, department 4: universities, Thuringian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Science and Digital Society

Hartmut Hotzel
Head of the Service Centre for Computer Systems and Communication (SCC) at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

PD Dr. Annemarie Jaeggi

Director and managing director of the Bauhaus Archive / Museum of Design, Berlin

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Carsten Könke
Professor of Structural Engineering and Component Strength, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Dr. Thomas Rabe

CEO of Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA, Gütersloh/Berlin

Nathalie Wappler Hagen
Director of Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen (SRF)

Franciska Zólyom
Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Leipzig

The University Council must now be officially appointed by the Ministry. Like a supervisory board at a commercial company, the University Council plays an advisory and overseeing role. Key internal and strategic decisions cannot be made without its consent or approval. It delivers opinions on goal and performance agreements with the State of Thuringia and on the principles of the internal distribution of funds, and approves the university’s annual accounts.

The new University Council will hold its first constituent meeting in November 2019.

More information about the council’s members and current projects will soon be available here: www.uni-weimar.de/en/university/structure/committees/university-council/
