Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Recognised with Five 2025 ADC Talent Awards

With one Silver Nail and two Bronze Nails as well as two additional awards, design students from the Faculty of Art and Design have once again impressed at the renowned ADC Talent Award. The award-winning projects were designed in the Visuelle Kommunikation (Visual Communication) and Media Art and Design degree programmes and display a broad range of design and content, from biodiversity and typography to collective authorship, protest culture, and philosophically motivated forms of publication.

Silver for Virtual Installation on Marine Biodiversity
Lynn Haag was awarded a Silver Nail in the »Exhibition Design« category for her Bachelor's thesis »Arthropods of the Anthropocene«. The lovingly designed interactive, 3D-animated video project is dedicated to the diversity of small marine creatures, in particular shellfish and crustaceans. The audience can explore an evolutionary timeline at a customised station. The installation translates biological complexity and ecological vulnerability into an aesthetic experience combining research and design. You can see the installation in action in the following video: www.vimeo.com/1077848031

Bronze for »PORT« Collective Magazine Project
The »PORT« student magazine was recognised again with a Bronze Nail in the »Editorial Products« category. The »Clone Issue« is dedicated to interactions between humans and machines, the individual and the collective, the analogue and the digital. The editorial team focused on the idea of collective authorship in a narrative fusion of past, present, and future where every source was a resource and every contribution was part of a larger whole. The issue includes over 20 creative works and texts by Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students and invites readers to immerse themselves in a creative network of everyday encounters.

Bronze for Typographical Homage to the Glyph

The jury also awarded a Bronze Nail in the »Editorial Products« category to Ossian Osborne for his typographical project »NOTDEF GLYPH I LOVE YOU« His publication celebrates the diversity of undefined glyphs. These are typographic placeholders that typically indicate gaps in digital character sets. The over 400-page book is a collection of over 160 unique glyphs, designed by over 70 type designers from around the world. It is a creative homage to the non-standard and the unique.

Awards for Post-Natural Book Worlds and Illustrated Protest Landscapes
Two additional projects were also recognised: Elise Weiland’s final project »Preserved in a Jar – Entanglements of Postnatural Beings« impressed in the »Editorial Products« category. The publication consists of two carefully designed books and is complemented by an installation made of glass and water and a performative reading. Inspired by Karen Barad's »Intra-Aktion« theory, the project is dedicated to the question of the vitality of matter and shows how design can contribute to reflecting on nature, networking, relationships, and the future.

Hannes Naumann was recognised in the »Illustration« category for his Master's thesis »Zorn des Wimmels«. In a 13 metre wide, illustrated circular painting, he casts a critical eye on the current culture of demonstrations in Germany: peaceful and violent, left, right, moderate, or extreme. Many of the figures are based on real-life examples from television reports, giving the work the appearance of a social snapshot.
