Bauhaus-Universität Weimar grabs first place in the current DAAD funding ranking

In the most recent summary report on student financial assistance by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar took the top spot in Germany for universities of its size. Overall, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has managed to double its DAAD funding from 2010 to 2014 to more than two million euros.

The university sees this as an affirmation of its strategic international orientation. This approach embeds the university’s specific spectrum of subjects - from art to design, from science to technology - in an international self-image that permeates all of its processes and structures. Dr. Christian Kästner, Head of International Relations, explains, »We are delighted with this success, which came thanks to the various stakeholders in teaching, research and the administration of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The funds flow into a number of formats in the individual areas and thus support the integrated internationalisation of the university.«

The DAAD is the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar's most important partner in the international arena. For years, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has occupied top positions in the DAAD ranking and occupied the number one slot most recently in 2007. The growth in funding over the previous year is due in no small part to the fundraising effort for the Strategic Partnerships project and mobility funding through Erasmus+ and PROMOS. The largest share of the funds flow into the cooperative programmes with China, Ethiopia, Egypt and Argentina.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has a high percentage of international students. In summer semester 2015 more than 21 percent of the students at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar came from abroad. The national average is eleven and a half per cent. In addition, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar maintains an extensive international network. It keeps consistent relationships going with some 200 partner universities worldwide and has agreements for regular exchanges of students and employees.
