Paula Weise, coordinator of »adream« at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, accepted one of three DO/Jury Awards at the Designers’ Open 2013 in the jam-packed Leipzig Messehalle last evening. »We are delighted that the competition was so well-received not only by the participants, but also the professional jury of experts and the public, « the product designer commented. »We’re also thrilled that our material library was recognised as an information platform. It’s a big success for all the participating designers, architects, the state of Thuringia and the Picardie region in France. «

The idea competition »adream – Architecture and Design with Sustainable and Ecological Materials« is a European project to promote innovation and was jointly organised by the State of Thuringia and the Picardie region. The intention of the European partners was to promote sustainable management of natural resources by means of innovative concepts in order to fully tap the potential of sustainable, ecological materials. In both regions, research institutes, businesses and universities are working to continually increase the use of these materials in our building and product culture.

The Designers’ Open is an annual design festival in Leipzig targeted at experts and the general public. Now in its ninth year, the festival invited designers and representatives from the business and scientific sectors to meet and discuss their latest findings. Three DO/Jury Awards are traditionally conferred each year. This year’s jury members were Angela Schlösse (Pension für Produkte, Hamburg), Esther John (Esther John KG, Schwerin) and Mark Braun (Studio Mark Braun, Berlin). Last year’s Designers‘ Open attracted 12,500 visitors and 180 exhibitors.
