At the seventeenth concrete canoe regatta held in Heilbronn on 28–29 June, the four teams from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar engaged in a neck-and-neck race with HTWK Leipzig and the University of Twente. With their self-built concrete canoes, the students from Weimar placed second and third in the women’s race and third and fourth in the men’s. The winning boat, »inFORM«, also impressed the judges of the design competition.

Die Autorin und Buchgestalterin Judith Schalansky ist am Donnerstag, 6. Juni 2019, zu Gast bei der Langen Nacht des wissenschaftlichen Schreibens an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

As part of the »100 Years of Bauhaus« Centenary events, »Denkraum.Bauhaus« is taking place from 27 to 29 September 2019. This congress combines the International Symposium on the Education of Architecture and the Federal Congress of Art Education for the first time. Denkraum.Bauhaus focuses on the question of contemporary education and the ensuing responsibility of architects, artists and designers in the field of education.

Born out of a student idea, the Bauhaus Walk is now a firm fixture in Weimar’s cultural and tourist landscape. Thousands of visitors from all over the world have already taken the tour, during which student guides bring the history of Bauhaus to life via the locations where it once had an impact. Just in time for the Bauhaus Centenary, the initiative has just welcomed its 50,000th visitor.

Lena Weber and Tamara Knapp, both visual communication students, have been awarded a Silver Nail in the »semester thesis: magazine/newspaper« category at the ADC Junior competition for their design of the magazine »Port«. The ADC contest is one of the most notable competitions for visual design and Germany’s top creative competition.

Das »backup_festival« der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und die Literarische Gesellschaft Thüringen e. V. veranstalten vom 31. Mai bis 2. Juni 2019 das Poetryfilm-Festival. Am Samstag, 1. Juni 2019, wird der internationale Weimarer Poetryfilmpreis zum vierten Mal verliehen.

As part of the »Thüringer Digitalfestival« on 25 May 2019 a »CityFestival« for citizens will take place for the first time at the Domplatz in Erfurt. From 10am to 6pm researchers from Weimar will be presenting technological innovations in the area of robotics, virtual reality and artificial intelligence in the construction industry.

Get involved in discussions and expand your network on the topic of studying and teaching: this year Tag der Lehre (Wednesday 29 May 2019) again provides a platform for discourse, insights and experiments connected with study and teaching at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Sensor-based monitoring systems help to increase the safety of bridges and other infrastructure on the long term. In practice the IT systems are often prone to errors, however. The aim of the »Dafmon« joint project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), is to automate recognition of sensor errors which occur in future and to resolve these.

An der Langen Nacht der Museen Weimar beteiligt sich die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar am Samstag, 18. Mai 2019, mit einem eigenen Programm. Highlights sind die Ausstellungseröffnung »Collect Bauhaus« und das Konzert »Bach am Bauhaus«.

Im Labor für Bauwerkssensorik und Datenanalyse erarbeiten Studierende und Lehrende der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar digitale Lösungen für das Bauwesen 4.0. Am 14. Mai 2019 wurde das Innovationsprojekt als eines von bundesweit zehn Preisträgern von der Initiative »Deutschland – Land der Ideen« und der Deutschen Bank in Berlin ausgezeichnet.

Mit dem Filmprojekt »Fashion Clips« im Wintersemester 2019/20 geht die Kooperation in die nächste Runde: Studierende des Studiengangs Medienkunst/Mediengestaltung der Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung übersetzen darin die für den APOLDA EUROPEAN DESIGN AWARD 2020 nominierten Modekollektionen in kurze Modefilme.

Das Institut für Europäische Urbanistik (IfEU) der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar lädt am Donnerstag, 23. Mai 2019, 19 Uhr, zu einem öffentlichen Abendvortrag der Architektin Dr. Anne Kockelkorn (ETH Zürich) ein. In ihrem Vortrag betrachtet die Professorin für Kunst- und Architekturgeschichte die Wohnungsfrage aus architektonischer Perspektive. Der Soziologe Prof. Dr. Stephan Lessenich (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) kommentiert den Vortrag.

As part of the »100 Years of Bauhaus« centenary events from 15 to 17 May 2019 the »Bauhaus Medien. Praktiken zwischen Handwerk, Material und Aisthesis« (Bauhaus media. Practices between crafts, material and aisthesis) conference is taking place at the Faculty of Media of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Over three days renowned scholars will focus on the Bauhaus as a media phenomenon - from its origins through to modern day.

On Wednesday 15 May 2019 students and alumni as well as anyone else interested in attending have the opportunity at the Weimar Career Fair to meet with potential companies for work experience and employment, and take a further step on their career path. 75 exhibitors will be presenting from 10am to 3pm at Mensa am Park and in the adjacent inner courtyard.

»Nothing is waste water, everything is a resource« – in accordance with this motto students and teachers of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar have developed an interactive toilet. The »P-Bank« project, which is funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation, intends to show sustainable alternatives to the conventional waste water system. Until 16 August 2019 interested persons are warmly invited to try out the New Alternative Sanitation System (NASS) located on Marienstraße 11 (LÜCKE) and to donate phosphorus.

Under the title »EGO vs. ECO – eine Gegenüberstellung« (EGO vs. ECO - a comparison) the second exhibition by EIGENHEIM Weimar/Berlin will open on 4 May 2019 at 7pm as the official display-window of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in the centenary year »100 Years of Bauhaus«. In its rooms in Berlin-Charlottenburg the gallery - in cooperation with Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and other institutions - presents work by students, teachers and alumni from all four faculties of the university.

Die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar setzt mit dem Bannermotiv des international bekannten Künstlers Hans Haacke ein Zeichen für kulturelle Vielfalt und Toleranz. Bis zum 15. Mai 2019 zeigt die Litfaßsäule in der Belvederer Allee in zwölf verschiedenen Sprachen die Aufschrift »Wir (alle) sind das Volk«, gerahmt von einem regenbogenfarbenen Verlauf.

»Unter jedem Parkplatz liegt ein Schatz« – das möchten Studierende der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar am Beispiel der Schützengasse 6-10 beweisen. Am Mittwoch, den 24. April 2019, von 11 bis 18 Uhr, verwandeln Philipp Kohl, Laura Muske, Tuan Nguyen und Leon Thiebes die innerstädtischen Parkflächen in einen grünen Ort der Begegnung. Interessierte sind herzlich eingeladen, alternative Verkehrskonzepte in Workshops bei Snacks und Getränken selbst zu erleben.
