Radiophonic Spaces wins the 2019 Heritage in Motion Award

The Heritage in Motion Award is an annual multimedia competition which honours the best multimedia achievements and products which bring Europe's cultural and natural heritage closer to the public in a creative and innovative way. On 20 September 2019 in Ljubljana, the »Radiophonic Spaces« travelling exhibition received the Heritage in Motion Award in the »Games & Interactive Experiences« category.

The Media Anthropology Centre of Excellence (KOMA) is closing its five-year funding period with an international conference from 9 to 11 October 2019. The common theme of the English-language lectures in the former Palais Dürckheim in Weimar is the complex entanglements in which human existence finds itself today. Millionenförderung für »Bauhaus.MobilityLab«: Konzept für das Reallabor der Zukunft überzeugt beim KI-Innovationswettbewerb

Mithilfe Künstlicher Intelligenz sollen ab Frühjahr 2020 innovative Produkte und Dienstleistungen in den Bereichen Mobilität, Logistik und Energie entwickelt und unter realen Bedingungen in der Thüringer Landeshauptstadt Erfurt erprobt werden. Ein interdisziplinäres Konsortium unter Federführung der Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar sowie der INNOMAN GmbH hat sich erfolgreich am »KI-Innovationswettbewerb« des Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie beteiligt. Mit einem Projektvolumen von rund 20 Millionen Euro soll das »Bauhaus.MobilityLab« in den kommenden drei Jahren zu einem Leuchtturm der Mobilitäts- und Energiewende werden.

During the 2019 summer semester, architecture students at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar designed a mobile pavilion for public spaces as part of a project sponsored by the European Union. It is dedicated to the three renowned composers Clara Schumann, Edvard Grieg and Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The pavilion called »TRAVELLING MUSICIANS | REISENDE MUSIKER – Clara, Edvard and Mikalojus Konstantinas« is currently being set up and will be officially opened on 19 September 2019 at Weimar Central Station.

Enormous Success for the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in the Tenure-Track Programme: Eight additional Professorships

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has performed very successfully in the Federal Government-Länder Programme for the promotion and funding of young scientists, such as the Joint Science Conference (GWK) announced on Thursday, 12 September: From December 2019 onwards, the university will be able to establish eight new junior professorships. This will allow highly specialised young scientists to be appointed to positions at Weimar in the coming years and enrich research, design and teaching activities at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, guaranteeing an optimal working environment.

Anlässlich des 100-jährigen Jubiläums des Bauhauses öffnen bundesweit historische Stätten ihre Türen und richten den Fokus auf revolutionäre Ideen sowie die Entstehung neuer Kunst- und Baustile. An der Weimarer Universität bieten Studierende kostenlose Führungen durch die Bauhausstätten an.

»DIE WOHNUNG EINHUNDERT« and »Silent Film Retrospective« – the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar at the Weimar Kunstfest

From 21 August to 7 September 2019, the Weimar Art Festival will be Thuringia's largest festival of contemporary art. Projects in cooperation with the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will also be included. With the project »DIE WOHNUNG EINHUNDERT«, Rochus Aust, the internationally renowned composer, sound and installation artist from Cologne, will present an interactive and performative media installation at the campus in Weimar. The Lectureship for Film and Media Studies, led by Dr. Simon Frisch, will also show a series of silent films popular in the Weimar cinemas of 1919 as part of the Silent Film Retrospective project, in cooperation with Lichthaus Kino, the University Library and the Weimar City Archive.

»Bauhaus 100. Focus Female«: Absolventinnen der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar präsentieren künstlerische Positionen im Vorpommerschen Künstlerhaus Heinrichsruh

Fünf Absolventinnen der Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung präsentieren ab Samstag, 17. August 2019, ihre Werke in der Ausstellung »Bauhaus 100. Focus Female« im Künstlerhaus Heinrichsruh. Zur Vernissage wird Dr. Horst Henrici, Kanzler der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und direkter Nachfahre von Christoph Ludwig Henrici, dem Erbauer des im 18. Jahrhundert errichteten Herrenhauses, anwesend sein und die Gäste begrüßen.

Ars Electronica 2019: Media Artists Present Their Work at World’s Largest Media Art Festival

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be represented at the renowned »Ars Electronica« Media Arts Festival in Linz from 5 – 9 September 2019. Under the motto »We are not alone!«, the university is presenting a wide range of media art works, including exhibitions, panels, and a showcase. Students, instructors, and alumni are involved and the »Bauhaus100« Centenary acts as an impressive example of how diverse the work and research is and how interdisciplinary the art, design, and technology is at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Von Weimar nach Trier und von Trier nach Weimar

Die Universitätsbibliothek Weimar zeigt im Sommer die Wanderausstellung »Bauhausbücher« an der Universitätsbibliothek in Trier und übernimmt im Herbst selbst eine Ausstellung aus Weimars Partnerstadt an der Mosel. Die Ausstellungseröffnung der bereits seit April in Weimar zu erlebenden Ausstellung findet am 7. August um 18 Uhr in der Universitätsbibliothek Trier statt.

Three Bauhaus Walks Revive the Weimar of the Early 1920s

Media Studies students have designed three historical Bauhaus walks through Weimar which have been published in the form of three city maps. The suggested routes visually and narratively show Weimar as influenced by the Bauhaus style. The individual walks are based on three elaborately illustrated maps of Weimar.

Faculty of Art and Design presents animated explanatory videos for prospective students

»How does an aptitude test work?« and »What’s life like in Weimar?« – these and countless other questions preoccupying prospective students are now answered in a series of six hand-made, animated explanatory videos. The clips are available on the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar website, on the university’s Vimeo channel and soon also on various study portals.

Following the successful start of the tour in Basel and Berlin, the »Radiophonic Spaces« radio art exhibition will stop off in Weimar from 26 July to 19 September 2019. The opening ceremony - at 6pm on Friday 26 July 2019 - kicks off the three-day launch event involving performances, concerts, discussions and workshops at the University Library as well as in different locations around Weimar.

Fine Art graduate Kathy Schubert wins Lyonel Art Award

Kathy Schubert was conferred the Lyonel Art Award on Friday, 12 July 2019 during the »summaery2019«, the annual exhibition at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Awarded for the first time, the prize money of €2,000 was donated by Wiegand Manufactur Weimar. In future, the award will be presented once a year.

Annual »summaery«: winners of the 2019 Media Art Award announced

Nina Hopf, Christoph Hertel and Tommy Neuwirth have been awarded this year’s Media Art Awards. On Saturday, 13 July 2019, the students were honoured for their final theses for the Media Art and Design programme during an award ceremony at Gallery Eigenheim in Weimarhallenpark. Three film promotion prizes of the Bauhaus Film Institute and a special mention were also awarded.
