Restoring and retrofitting historical buildings in accordance with the regulations for listed buildings poses major challenges for the trades involved – both financially and technically. In future, digital technologies should facilitate the planning and implementation of revitalisation and maintenance measures. The state of Thuringia has awarded the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar around €1.25 million to research new value chains until December 2023.

From 2. August to 28. August 2020, over 300 students and graduates from all over the world will immerse the campus of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in a unique intercultural atmosphere. In the language and specialised courses of the Bauhaus Summer School, they will broaden their professional horizon and get to know the university and the cultural city of Weimar. Registration is open until 1. May 2020.

Bereits zum 19. Mal hat das Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie (BMWi) 2020 den bundesweiten Nachwuchswettbewerb »Auf IT gebaut – Bauberufe mit Zukunft« ausgelobt. Zweitplatzierte in der Kategorie »Bauingenieurwesen« ist in diesem Jahr eine Absolventin der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Die Preisverleihung fand im Rahmen der Fachmesse »bautec« am 19. Februar in Berlin statt.

Für das Jahr 2019 kann die Universitätsbibliothek der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar auf ihre ungebrochene Attraktivität verweisen: Mit 201.884 Besucherinnen und Besuchern war sie auch im vergangenen Jahr eine der meistbesuchten Kultur- und Wissenschaftseinrichtungen in Weimar. »Seit 2014«, informiert Bibliotheksdirektor Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz, »liegt die Besucherzahl Jahr für Jahr bei knapp über 200.000. Bei insgesamt 296 Öffnungstagen im Jahr sind das für 2019 im Durchschnitt 682 Besucher pro Tag. Diese Zahl spricht dafür, dass die Bibliothek als Lernort aus dem Alltag unserer Studierenden nicht wegzudenken ist.«

Eine neue Leitlinie zum Umgang mit Forschungsdaten ist am 12. Februar 2020 an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar verabschiedet worden. Mit der Leitlinie will die Universität dazu beitragen, den verantwortungsvollen, transparenten Umgang mit Forschungsdaten voranzubringen.

On 9–10 June, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, DBU) will present selected ideas on the subjects of environmental protection and sustainability in the grounds of Bellevue Palace. Two green innovations from Weimar will be among those presented: the interactive »Phosphorus Bank« (P-Bank) recycling toilet and »LocalHy«, a collaborative project on hydrogen technology.

Seit Anfang Februar 2020 ist die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar mit ihren digitalen Sammlungen im Thüringer Kultur- und Wissensportal »Kulthura« vertreten. Die Digitalisate umfassen insbesondere die Buch- und Zeitschriftenbestände der Vorgängereinrichtungen der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar zurückreichend bis ins Jahr 1860.

This year, the »Winterwerkschau« (Faculty of Art and Design) and »go4spring« (Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism) semester shows at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will take place at the same time. On 6–9 February 2020, students will showcase the work they created during the current winter semester.

»IfEU.OPEN« lautet der Titel einer neuen Schriftenreihe des Instituts für Europäische Urbanistik (IfEU) an der Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Als Open Access-Format stehen die Publikationen mit einer Creative Commons-Lizenz über das Online-Publikationsportal OPUS Weimar der Universitätsbibliothek allen Interessierten kostenfrei zum Herunterladen zur Verfügung.

On 6 January 2020, a three-person project team from the Institute for European Urban Studies (IfEU) at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar began working on the »Urban Co-Production of Social Rights and Public Welfare« research project. Scheduled to run until the end of 2022, the collaborative project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) will focus on negotiations between local civil society stakeholders and municipal authorities. It is being conducted in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space (IRS) based in Erkner.

Am Donnerstag, 6. Februar 2020, eröffnen die Fakultäten Architektur und Urbanistik sowie Kunst und Gestaltung der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ihre Semesterpräsentationen. Bis zum 9. Februar laden Ateliers und Arbeitsräume auf dem Unicampus und im Stadtraum zum Besuch der Projekte und zu einem Rundgang ein.

As part of her Bauhaus visiting professorship for the winter semester 2019/20, the philosopher Prof. Dr. Judith Simon will give an evening lecture at 6 pm on Wednesday, 29 January 2020 in the Oberlichtsaal in the Main Building on the topic of »Do the Algorithms Decide Now? About the Normativity of the Digital«. On Thursday, 30 January 2020, a workshop will then be held on the subject from 10 am to 1 pm. This will take place in the IKKM Lounge of the University Library at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (Steubenstraße 6, Weimar). All interested parties are warmly invited to attend.

In den Räumen der Universitätsbibliothek der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar eröffnen der Lehrstuhl für Kunstgeschichte an der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena und JenaKultur am 23. Januar 2020 um 17 Uhr die Ausstellung »Das verschwundene Bildnis: Ehrung Eduard Rosenthal«.

Die Produktdesign-Studentinnen Marie Kurstjens und Iva Coskun sind für ihren Tisch-Entwurf »Levi« im Nachwuchswettbewerb der »imm cologne« mit dem ersten Preis ausgezeichnet worden. Der Entwurf ist im Rahmen des Projekts »Collaboration« unter Leitung von Dipl.-Des. Meike Langer und Susann Paduch M.A. entstanden.

The political situation is currently changing rapidly – worldwide, in Germany, in Thuringia and also in Weimar. This also has an impact on culture, whose role is renegotiated: should culture set the agenda for political issues or does it follow the latest controversies? And what role can students of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar play in this? What can they expect of the city’s cultural institutions?

One hundred artistic black and white photographs by Samuel Solazzo and Jannis Uffrecht will be displayed in the Main Building at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar until 31 January 2020.

To celebrate 100 years of Bauhaus, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has released the book »Idee Inhalt Form. Beiträge zur Gestaltung der Gegenwart« (»Idea, Content, Form: Articles on Shaping the Present«), presented to the public at a book launch event on Friday, 13 December 2019. The volume includes 40 articles by teachers, staff members, doctoral candidates, students and alumni of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and clearly illustrates topics from the worlds of art and research.

On 1 April 2020, the newly established Research Training Group will begin its work at the Faculty of Media of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The DFG (German Research Foundation) is funding the facility with 4.13 million euros over a period of four and a half years. During the funding period, twelve doctoral students and two post-doctoral students will have the opportunity to investigate the diverse, existential relationships in which people and the media are interwoven.

Die Gründerwerkstatt neudeli und das Bauhaus.TransferzentrumDESIGN laden in diesem Jahr bereits zum elften Mal zum Weihnachtsmarkt an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ein. Unter dem Motto »Kauf Dir ein Stück Bauhaus« können die Besucherinnen und Besucher am Samstag, 14. Dezember 2019, von 10 bis 18 Uhr im Hauptgebäude der Universität und dessen Innenhof ausgefallene Produkte erwerben.

Am 18. Dezember 2019 eröffnet im südthüringischen Probstzella eine Ausstellung über das Werk des Bauhaus-Architekten Alfred Arndt im Schiefergebirge. Die Konzeption und Kuration verantwortet die Professur Denkmalpflege und Baugeschichte der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in Zusammenarbeit mit den Ausstellungskuratoren Maren und Mark Escherich.
