Das deutsch-israelische Filmprojekt »Bauhaus Remains«, das in Koproduktion zwischen der Tel Aviv University und der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar entstanden ist, wird im Rahmen des Programms des renommierten London Festival of Architecture erstmal online präsentiert. In vier Filmen wird das Bauhaus von seinen Wurzeln in Weimar bis hin zum »White City of Tel Aviv« künstlerisch reflektiert und filmisch-experimentell begleitet.

Since 1 April 2020, the German Research Foundation (DFG) has funded the project »Medien und Organe. Konfigurationen des Körpers im Posthumanismus« [»Media and Organs. Configurations of the Posthuman Body«] with €203,450. Under the aegis of Professor Henning Schmidgen, researchers from the Professorship for the Theory of Media Worlds are developing a history-based media theory of organs. The focus here is on the outsourcing of bodily functions to external media and the associated link to industrial production mechanisms.

Wissenschaftliche Texte sind die Basis von Wissenschaft und setzen wichtige Impulse sowohl im gesellschaftlichen Diskurs als auch im persönlichen Werdegang. Aus diesem Grund befasst sich die 6. Lange Nacht des wissenschaftlichen Schreibens mit den aktuellen Herausforderungen des wissenschaftlichen Publizierens. Wohin führt die Open Science-Bewegung? Wie können wissenschaftliche Ergebnisse in die Gesellschaft kommuniziert werden? Welche Trends gibt es in der Schreibberatung an Universitäten? Unter dem Motto »Open your mind!« lädt die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar am Donnerstag, 4. Juni 2020, Studierende, Promovierende, Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter der Universität sowie alle weiteren Schreibinteressierten zur diesjährigen Veranstaltung ein. Von 18 bis 24 Uhr erwartet die Gäste ein abwechslungsreiches Programm an Livestreams, Webinaren, Chats und virtuellen Touren.

Sie organisieren Ausstellungen und veranstalten Konzerte, eröffnen neue Bars oder temporäre Restaurants: Die Studierenden, Mitarbeitenden und Alumni der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar sind in vielerlei Hinsicht aktiv – sie prägen Kultur und Leben in der Stadt und machen Weimar so auch für andere attraktiv. In seiner zehnten Folge blickt der Bauhaus.Podcast über die Universität hinaus und geht der Frage nach, welche Rolle die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in der Stadt Weimar einnimmt.

Gleich einen vierfachen Erfolg konnten Studierende und Alumni der Visuellen Kommunikation beim ADC Junior Wettbewerb 2020 verzeichnen: Prämiert wurden Carla Baumeister, Corinna Lobinger und Antonia Dieti vom »PORT-Magazin 2019«, Jonas Turtschan und Leoš František Olpp mit dem Projekt »Alerta Partisan«, Timothy Goedeking, Louise Schöder und Robin Lindner mit »The Hate Tweet« sowie Gabriel Dörner und sein Team mit der Arbeit »Ästhetik der heilsamen Orte«. Der ADC-Contest ist einer der renommiertesten Wettbewerbe für visuelle Gestaltung und gilt als der wichtigste Kreativwettbewerb in Deutschland.

Im Rahmen einer Ringvorlesung wird der Park an der Ilm in diesem Sommersemester an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar zum Gegenstand für einen fachübergreifenden Diskurs: Unter dem Titel »Heterotopie Ilmpark« treten Lehrende aller Fakultäten der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in fünf öffentlichen Veranstaltungen in einen Diskurs über lokale und globale, künstlerische und wissenschaftliche, ökologische und technische Themen und Herausforderungen – als Ausgangspunkt dafür dient der Ilmpark. Die erste Online-Vorlesung findet am Mittwoch, 13. Mai 2020, um 18 Uhr statt.

How do the media engineer our ability to think? And how does the mass medium of television regulate our actions, feelings and knowledge? These and other exciting media-studies-related questions have been tackled by Dr. Lorenz Engell, Professor of Media Philosophy at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Faculty of Media, on Radio Lotte since 4 May 2020.

Zum 31. März 2020 endete die zwölfjährige Projektlaufzeit des Internationalen Kollegs für Kulturtechnikforschung und Medienphilosophie (IKKM) der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Das IKKM war eines der ersten von ursprünglich zehn Käte Hamburger Kollegs, das im Rahmen des Programms »Freiraum für die Geisteswissenschaften« vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung unter Annette Schavan eingerichtet und mit insgesamt ca. 16,5 Millionen Euro finanziert wurde. Für die kommenden zwei Jahre widmet sich ein kleines Team der Ergebnissicherung und dem wissenschaftlichen Transfer.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar University Library reopened on Tuesday 21 April for books and DVDs to be borrowed and returned. This service will initially only be available Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm and for Bauhaus-Universität Weimar members only.

»Imitation expressly encouraged!« is the motto guiding the principle of »open design«. To enable people to look after each other as much as possible during the coronavirus crisis, teaching staff in the Product Design and Interface Design departments have developed a special visor. The »BauhausUniVisor« is already being produced in the Bauhaus Form + Function Lab for use by local and regional care facilities and other partners.

Dr. Winfried Speitkamp, President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, has spoken out against the idea of making the 2020 summer semester non-credited (a »non-semester«). Instead, he has encouraged teachers and students to turn their attentions to current social issues and take a creative approach to the crisis.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Jagiellonian University in Krakow have received a total of 715,000 euros of funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Polish research organisation Narodowe Centrum Nauki (NCN) for a joint research project to index and analyse manuscripts and publications by women authors from the period around 1800. The aim is to create a digital platform where scans of manuscripts, transcriptions and contextual materials can be accessed from anywhere in the world free of charge.

What identity-forming potential lies in Vogtland’s cultural heritage? What patterns of perception can be observed? Since February 2020, the »Vogtlandpioniere: Zukunftsindex Heimat und Baukultur 2025« project has seen researchers from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Institute for European Urban Studies examine what people living in the border regions of Bavaria, Saxony, Thuringia and Bohemia consider valuable, what defines quality of life for them, and how they identify the region and understand its future development.

At a meeting on Wednesday 4 March 2020, the University Senate confirmed Dr. Jutta Emes and Dr.-Ing. Christian Koch as Vice Presidents. In doing so, the members of the Senate aligned with the Dr. Winfried Speitkamp’s recommendations.

The Presidium of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has decided to postpone the Open Campus Day that was scheduled to take place on Saturday 7 March 2020.

Dr.-Ing. Lars Abrahamczyk has been leading this newly created professorship at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Faculty of Civil Engineering since 1 January 2020. His research and teaching focus on the analysis, modelling and forecasting of structures, components and systems placed under extreme strain. The aim is to monitor deformability and prevent collapses and relevant damage to complex systems with the help of state-of-the-art technology.

Am Samstag, 7. März 2020, lädt die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar zum Hochschulinformationstag »hit« ein. Von 9 bis 15 Uhr beantworten Fachstudienberaterinnen und Fachstudienberater, Lehrende und Studierende im Foyer der Universitätsbibliothek Fragen zu einzelnen Studiengängen, zur Studienorganisation und den sozialen Rahmenbedingungen des Studiums. Außerdem können alle Studieninteressierten sich in Hörsälen, Werkstätten und Laboren vor Ort einen Eindruck vom Studium verschaffen.

Restoring and retrofitting historical buildings in accordance with the regulations for listed buildings poses major challenges for the trades involved – both financially and technically. In future, digital technologies should facilitate the planning and implementation of revitalisation and maintenance measures. The state of Thuringia has awarded the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar around €1.25 million to research new value chains until December 2023.

From 2. August to 28. August 2020, over 300 students and graduates from all over the world will immerse the campus of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in a unique intercultural atmosphere. In the language and specialised courses of the Bauhaus Summer School, they will broaden their professional horizon and get to know the university and the cultural city of Weimar. Registration is open until 1. May 2020.
