Bauhaus Summer School 2022 – The World in Weimar

From 20 August to 3 September 2022, 120 participants from almost 50 countries will once again come together on the campus of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar after a lengthy hiatus for the Bauhaus Summer School.

Second place in the German Study Award: Weimar media scholar acknowledged for outstanding doctorate

Martin Siegler, who is a research associate within the Professorship for Media Philosophy at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, has been awarded second prize in the humanities and cultural studies section of the 2022 German Study Prize for his dissertation on the subject of media articulations of human existence in emergency and catastrophe situations. Conferred by the Körber Foundation, this award honours outstanding work of particular social significance.

Fellowships for Digital Teaching Formats at Thuringian Universities: Staff at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Awarded Fellowships for Innovations in Digital Teaching

From this autumn, Prof. Dr. Andrea Dreyer (Professor of Art Education, Faculty of Art and Design) and Prof. Dr. Bernd Fröhlich (Professor of Virtual Reality Systems, Faculty of Media) will receive funding from the »Innovationen in der digitalen Hochschullehre« joint fellowship programme of the donors’ association (Stifterverband) of the German initiative to promote education, science and innovation (Deutsche Wissenschaft e. V.) and the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society. The state of Thuringia is supporting teaching concepts with up to €50,000 to encourage innovations in digital university teaching.

Shaping the web search of the future: Weimar computer scientists participate in major »OpenWebSearch.EU« project

The Webis group involving Prof. Dr. Benno Stein (Bauhaus-Universität Weimar), Prof. Dr. Martin Potthast (Leipzig University) and Prof. Matthias Hagen (University of Halle) will cooperate with eleven other leading European research centres to develop an open web search infrastructure for Europe as part of the »OpenWebSearch.EU« project. The project aims to contribute to Europe’s digital sovereignty and to foster an open, human-centred search engine market. It is being funded with €8.5 million through »Horizon Europe«, which is the European Commission’s key funding programme for research and innovation.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Senate confirms Professor Andrea Osburg is the new Vice President

In its meeting on 6 July 2022, the University Senate unanimously voted in Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andrea Osburg as the new Vice President for Research, Arts and Young Academics. The professor for construction chemistry and polymeric building materials was nominated by the Interim President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and appointed for three years beginning immediately after the vote, in accordance with the University Charter. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andrea Osburg’s term in office thus began on 6 July and she will be available at least until the future university president takes office.

Blog by students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar presents collaborative multimedia text on the subject of complaints

In the winter semester 2021/22, students from the Faculty of Art & Design embarked on an in-depth exploration of complaints and the processes these trigger that are often contrary to the intention of the actual complaint within the module entitled »Complaint!ivism?«. The outcome is almost 200 individual entries that address this highly topical social issue from an art-theoretical and artistic perspective in a wide variety of formats.

Fine art graduate Hannes Dünnebier conferred the Lyonel Art Prize

On Friday 15 July 2022, Hannes Dünnebier was honoured with the Lyonel Art Prize during the »summaery2022« annual show at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The award for outstanding young artists is endowed with €2,000 and has been conferred to artistic dissertations from the Faculty of Art and Design since 2019 by the Lyonel e. V. association for the promotion of art, design and culture.

Two years of pandemic: health minister Heike Werner visits the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

On Monday 18 July, the Thuringian minister will stop off in Weimar as part of her summer tour. The extent to which waste water should be analysed all across Germany to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and other pathogens will be discussed during an exchange with Professor Silvio Beier and other partners from the pilot project »SARS-CoV-2 waste water monitoring in Thuringia« (CoMoTH).

SCIENCE MILE Q3 and OPEN LAB NIGHT – Bauhaus-Universität Weimar opens labs to the public

On Friday, 15 July, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is hosting two key events as part of its summaery2022 annual show. At 12:30–6 pm, visitors are invited to explore fascinating experiments, go on lab tours and view computer simulations along the 300-metre SCIENCE MILE Q3 on Coudraystraße: Are houses made of straw sustainable? And what exactly does plaster have to do with the coal phase-out? And how does a virtual mechanics lab work? Afterwards, the OPEN LAB NIGHT 2022 will begin in Schwanseestraße with virtual reality, game design and 3D engineering. Until 10 pm, visitors can tour the computer science labs and speak with the scientists and students while they enjoy cold beverages, barbecued food and DJ music.

The »summaery2022« annual show at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar asks the question of »Who knows?«, but also provides some answers.

No one on campus, in the lecture halls or in the workrooms really has time to reflect at the moment. Shortly before the end of the semester, all students and teachers are fully focused on finishing off their projects, modules and seminars as best possible, be it with a presentation, exam or exhibition. A lot of knowledge has been produced, developed further and conveyed over the course of the academic year. This is taken up in the »summaery2022« being held at the University from 14 to 17 July, which considers the question of »Wer weiß? | Who knows?«.

»Intro Bauhaus« – Internationale Schulferien in Weimar

Im Rahmen eines neuen Kooperationsprojektes heißt die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar am Mittwoch, 6. Juli 2022, 20 Schüler*innen aus Kroatien, Rumänien, Italien und aus der Türkei willkommen. Die jungen Leute sind in Weimar, um die deutsche Sprache, die sie bereits in der Schule seit einigen Jahren lernen, anzuwenden und ihre Sprachfähigkeiten zu verbessern.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar wird Mitglied des weltweiten ORCID-Konsortiums

Forschungsergebnisse noch besser sichtbar machen: Die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar hat sich der weltweiten Initiative zur Identifikation von Publizierenden und Beteiligten an Forschungsprozessen, der Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID), angeschlossen und ist zukünftig Mitglied des ORCID-Deutschland Konsortiums. Damit wird es leichter, Publikationen, Forschungsdaten und andere Ergebnisse aus wissenschaftlicher Arbeit konkreten Personen im Forschungsprozess zuzuordnen.

Regionalgruppe Thüringen des Netzwerks buildingSMART gegründet

buildingSMART Deutschland e. V. ist ein Kompetenznetzwerk für Building Information Modeling (BIM) also digitales Planen, Bauen und Betreiben von Bauwerken. Eine Regionalgruppe für Thüringen gab es bisher nicht.
Im Frühjahr 2022 wurde nun unter Mitwirkung der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, vertreten durch Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Koch, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Melzner, Dr.-Ing. Helga Tauscher und Martina Mellenthin Filardo, die buildingSMART-Regionalgruppe Thüringen gegründet.

»Früh/Spät/Nacht« – Student der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Simon Surjasentana präsentiert Gemälde aus dem Alltag auf Intensivstation im Thüringer Landtag

Simon Surjasentana studiert seit 2016 im Studiengang Freie Kunst an der Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung. Um sein Studium zu finanzieren, arbeitet er halbtags auf der Intensivstation des Sophien- und Hufelandklinikums Weimar. Die Eindrücke als Pfleger verarbeitet er in seiner Malerei, die ab 7. Juli 2022 in einer Einzelausstellung im Thüringer Landtag zu sehen sein wird.

»Towards Smart Structures« - Expert Forum on Transport Infrastructure

What do smart materials and artificial intelligence have to offer when it comes to sustainable and modern transport infrastructure? From 30 June to 1 July 2022, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be hosting nearly 70 experts from the industry and academia to a professional forum discussion at »mon ami« in Weimar. Best practice examples and the latest results from initial research will be presented.

Second Exhibition at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s University Gallery Presents Works from the Field of Artistic Research

Seven artists from the Faculty of Art and Design who combine their work with practical and/or academic research will be presenting their work in the »Spooky Action« exhibition at the »nova space« temporary gallery in Erfurt starting on Wednesday, 29 June 2022. The exhibition is part of the SAR International Conference on Artistic Research, which will take place from 30 June to 3 July 2022 at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Studierende der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar erfolgreich beim 36. Plakatwettbewerb des Deutschen Studentenwerks

Arbeiten von gleich drei Studierenden der Visuellen Kommunikation, Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung, sind unter die 29 besten Plakate des Wettbewerbs gewählt wurden, der unter dem Motto »Campusleben digital« ausgeschrieben war. Einen zweiten Platz belegte Hanyi Kim mit ihrem Plakat »Studying at Home«. Weitere Auszeichnungen erhielten Leela Dutta für »Hinter den Kulissen« und Hannes Naumann mit seinem Plakat »Im Fenster«.

Save the Date: summaery2022 Annual Exhibition Focuses on the Question of »Wer weiß? | Who knows?«

After two years of pandemic, this year’s annual exhibition Ucan finally once again take place on the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus. From 14 to 17 July 2022, studios, workrooms and seminar rooms will be transformed into exhibition spaces and visitors invited to learn more about the projects completed by the four faculties and their departments in the current academic year.
