Student University Award for Carolin Harre

Ms. Carolin Harre received the 2019 Student University Award of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar at Science Day

Carolin Harre was awarded for her master's thesis on "Bauhaus 2019: Determination of thermal properties of the building envelope using thermography; case study Bauhaus-Campus" (supervisor: Prof. Anja Willmann). In her thesis, she broadened an existing methodology for thermal data acquisition in urban districts by the application of thermografic images. This methodology is aiming for identifying energy consumption data of larger building stock areas without requiring access to the building itself. Based on thermographic images taken from street level, Carolin Harre developed an equation to determine the thermal properties of the building skin for the calculation of infiltration losses of the envelope. By applying this methodology on the case study of 32 buildings of the Bauhaus Campus, she has proven that it is suitable for determining the U-values of building envelopes more accurately than the common application of databases according to construction age and building typology. The thesis is part of the research project Bauhaus2050 funded by the the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt - DBU).
