Wind direction sensor

General Information

The wind direction sensor is used to measure horizontal wind direction. The wind vane is made of durable plastic, and the electronics are housed in a weatherproof aluminum enclosure. For winter operation, the device is equipped with an electronically controlled heater to prevent the ball bearings and outer rotating parts from freezing. A particularly innovative feature is an integrated special labyrinth seal, which prevents unwanted water ingress without causing friction losses.

Installation

The FVA614 is mounted on a mast tube and is fastened via a PG21 threaded connection using a steel screw. Since the measuring device is installed on a flat roof, it was positioned approximately in the center of the roof. Care was also taken to ensure that it is not located in the wind shadow of other objects.

North Alignment

The housing markings on the shaft and on the protective cap were rotated to align exactly with one another. A compass was then used to sight a distinctive point in the landscape located in the northern direction. Once the sensor was correctly aligned, it was screwed into place.
