Search range | By default, your search covers the entire university library collection. In the settings you may expand your search to cover »All Libraries«, i.e. more than 400 individual libraries. Any items that are not in the university library's collection can be requested directly by inter-library loan. |
Phonetic search | In the settings, you can also select »phonetic search«. This option includes similar terms in your search. We recommend using it if you don't know the exact spelling of a word, or if there are variant spellings. For example, searching for »Malevič« will also return hits for Malevich, Malewitsch, Malewicz … |
Search terms | Enter one or several terms in the search field, without any articles. The autocomplete function will assist you in selecting a search term while you type. Your terms will be searched for in all fields in the items' description, including abstracts and scanned tables of content. |
Placeholders *, ? | Place an * at any point in your search term, including at the end, to substitute for any number of characters. Examples: A ? will substitute for exactly one character. It can likewise be placed at any point in your search term, including at the end. Examples: |
Phrase search | If you're looking for an exact sequence of words (a phrase), set it in quotation marks. This will considerably reduce the number of returned hits. Example: |
Searching for persons | If you're looking for a specific person, the preferred way is to set the name (first name first, then last name) in quotation marks. Example: |
Filtering search results | By default, your search results will be sorted by relevance, i.e. the largest overlap of your search and a document. Using the buttons, you may sort your results by year of publication, ascending or descending. Using the slider or by entering the years manually, you can limit your search to a specific period. To limit your search to specific media formats, check the boxes on display. |
Access to licensed electronic ressources | The university library offers many electronic ressources (e-books, e-journals, e-articles) in full text. To access them from off campus, you will need to log in using Shibboleth or a VPN connection. These electronic ressources may be accessed from outside the university using your Shibboleth login. |
Checklist | You can temporarily save interesting results from your search in a checklist while your session is in effect. Simply click the checklist button while viewing an item's full description. You can display the checklist using the button in the upper row. To save your checklist, several options are available, such as sending it by mail, printing it or exporting it. |
