»Debating Heritage«: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Continues Successful Event Series in Summer 2026

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is once again inviting the public to the »Debating Heritage« lecture and discussion series. Every Wednesday at 6:30 pm, scientists and experts will be speaking on current issues surrounding cultural heritage, building culture, and the challenges posed by the digital age.

The series kicks off on 3 June 2026 with the event »Erbe auf Standby? Die Hochhausscheiben in Halle-Neustadt« by Hendrikje Alpermann. The geographer earned her doctorate studying vacant high-rises in Halle (Saale) and is the Scientific Coordinator of the interdisciplinary »Anders Bauen - für Ressourcenschonung und Klimaschutz« work group at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Her lecture centres around high-rise buildings that have stood vacant for over 20 years and exemplify transformation processes in East German cities following the end of socialism. Alpermann shows how these sites become spaces for negotiating societal questions of responsibility, trust, and future use. In the accompanying discussion, she will explore these perspectives with Lena Hecker and Daniela Zupan from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The event is organised together with the »Gewohnter Wandel« DFG research training group.
