At the moment – just as we are preparing to begin the lecture period – there has been an increase in SARS-CoV-2 cases in Weimar. The City of Weimar Health Department has attributed the outbreak to, among other things, an evening at a restaurant involving members of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
The Presidium is taking this opportunity to once again urge all university members to refrain from attending celebrations, parties, and social gatherings both on campus and in their private lives.
The university wants to keep all members in the best way possible. Unfortunately, it is specifically during these celebrations – which are typically held indoors in the autumn and winter – that the risk of infection is highest. The current coronavirus situation in Weimar illustrates how unpredictable and how quickly the SARS-CoV-2 virus can spread and how important it is to act responsibly and avoid infection risks. We should remind ourselves of measures and guidelines laid out in the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar basic hygiene plan. These regulations must be observed and adhered to by all members of the university.
We are depending on your help to stop the further spread of infection and to help us implement appropriate measures as quickly as possible. If you yourself have been affected by COVID19 – either directly infected or in contact with an infected individual – be sure to inform your superior and Human Resources (dezernat.personal@uni-weimar.de) of the situation. Any information you share will be treated confidentially. This information is important for protecting the health of university members and it is important that it is reliable. Please provide comprehensive information, including the (possible) time of infection, individuals you have been in contact with, test dates, and length of quarantine.
The City of Weimar Health Department is also relying on your help; In a discussion on preparing for the upcoming lecture period, representatives from the city discussed contact tracing procedures, quarantine orders, and how to inform affected individuals:
The goal of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is to resume in-person teaching and open up its buildings during the 2020/2021 winter semester. In order to achieve this goal, we are working to provide the best possible protection against infection for everyone. It is up to each and every one of us to work together to make sure this happens. This is the only way we will be able to manage a winter semester together – even during the pandemic.
Take care of yourself and your health!
