FAQ for Everyone

The Presidium of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is constantly assessing the rapidly unfolding situation regarding the spread of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). The Presidium is following recommendations made by the Robert Koch Institute and is in close exchange with the Studentenwerk Thüringen, the City of Weimar, the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society, and the other Thuringian universities.

The University established a crisis team according to the pandemic which meets regularly and makes decisions regarding which measures are to be taken. The Extended Crisis Team also includes representatives of the faculties, departments and various central facilities. Additionally the corona coordination group provides support in operational tasks.

Details about the members of the various central working groups and their tasks can be found here: Central Working Group for Managing the Coronavirus Pandemic at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Measures taken by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Which rules for infection protection apply for in-person teaching and working on site at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar?

An amended version of the university’s Basic Hygiene Plan has been in effect since 14 October 2022.

Wearing a Mask and Maintaining Distance:

The general recommendation is that everyone wear a mask and maintain distance between one another. Masks must be worn whenever 1.5 metre-distancing cannot be maintained. Under this rule, either medical masks (surgical masks) or FFP2 masks must be worn.

All infection protection measures at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are based on the 7th Basic Hygiene Plan.

General Measures in Germany, Thuringia and Weimar

The most important protection and hygiene regulations

In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the Federal Republic of Germany, the state of Thuringia and the city of Weimar have put the following temporary measures in place. These are adjusted on an ongoing basis.

These are the most important basic protective measures in Thuringia:

  • The Thuringian Ministry of Health continues to recommend the voluntary wearing of a mask in areas where many people are present at the same time and where the minimum distances cannot be maintained.
  • The mask requirement remains in place in public transport, doctors' surgeries and medical facilities, hospitals, nursing homes and community facilities, and outpatient care services.
  • In retail, restaurants and hotels, retailers and operators can enforce the mask requirement by domiciliary right.
  • Testing requirement in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, (partial) inpatient care facilities, and residential facilities for persons with disabilities is mandatory for unvaccinated and non-vaccinated persons.

Current Ordinances and Decrees

All protections measures and regulations on containing the spread of the coronavirus are laid down by the Federal Republic of Germany, the State of Thuringia and the city of Weimar and are updated regularly.

Currently in effect:

  • Bundes-Infektionsschutzgesetz (Infection Protection Law, in particular §22, §28a, §28b, §28c)
  • Thüringer Corona-Schutzverordnung (Thuringian Infection Protection Ordinance, in German)
  • Corona-Arbeitsschutzverordnung (Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, in German)
  • Ordinance on Coronavirus Entry Regulations
  • Coronavirus Test Ordinance (in German)

Conduct in case of infection or quarantine

What should I do if I have a coronavirus infection?

If you suspect that you have been infected with the coronavirus, the following things are important at first:

  • Quarantine: Stay at home and avoid household contacts if possible.
  • Telephone consultation: Contact your doctor's office or the medical on-call service on 116 117 to clarify the further procedure regarding a PCR test and possibly necessary treatment steps. For individual queries, the Corona Hotline of the City of Weimar is also available at +49 (0) 3643 762 555.

If you have a positive PCR test result:

  • Immediately go into domestic isolation (even without being contacted by the health department). The duration of isolation will be only five days from May 2022. According to the Ministry of Health, the condition for the shortened quarantine is that you have not had any symptoms for 48 hours. Free testing is no longer necessary. Isolation will end after ten days at the latest.
  • Already inform all persons with whom you last had close contact.
  • The city of Weimar has provided an online data collection form on its website to shorten the process of data collection after a positive PCR test.

You can find more details on how to act in different cases on infektionsschutz.de (in German):

  • Procedure after contact with an infected person
  • What to do after a positive self-test or rapid test
  • Rules for quarantine: Who has to be quarantined and when? What are the exceptions? What do I have to pay attention to?
  • What to do in case of a confirmed Corona infection: Isolation, hygiene tips

What should I do if I had contact to an infected person?

Observe whether you develop symptoms of a Corona infection.

If you have had contact with a proven infected person, you are »strongly advised« by the state of Thuringia to reduce your social contacts as much as possible. In addition, daily rapid or self-tests are recommended. However, quarantine for contact persons is no longer mandatory.

Please follow the instructions provided by infektionsschutz.de (in German):

  • Procedure after contact with an infected person
  • What exceptions to quarantine apply to vaccinated and recovered persons?

Do I have to report an infection or quarantine to the university?

Employees of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar please contact immediately

  • their supervisor
  • the Personnel Department at dezernat.personal[at]uni-weimar.de

We are depending on your help to stop the spread of infection and to help us implement appropriate measures as quickly as possible. Please be honest about any potential infection. Honesty will not be penalized and your personal data will be protected.

Students who tested positive for the coronavirus SARS-CoC-2, do not have to report an infection centrally, but are asked to act with caution and to inform possible contacts independently.

Tests and Vaccination

Where can I get tested for the coronavirus?

Self-tests

A self-test can be purchased in retail stores and performed independently (usually by a nasal swab), the result is available after 15 to 20 minutes. It is essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions for use.

Members of the university receive a free self-test once a week, unless they work exclusively in a home office.

Rapid antigen tests are available in test centres

Rapid tests are carried out by medical staff using a nasal and throat swab and the test is analysed on site in a test centre. Results are usually available about 20 minutes after the test is performed. You will receive proof of your results.
