Infomail from the Presidium: Update on In-Person Events

Dear colleagues, dear students,

This e-mail is to inform you on current conditions at our university. We are happy to announce that the infection rates in Weimar are decreasing and we hope that more people being vaccinated and the lifting of vaccination prioritisation on 7 June 2021 will mean more in-person encounters!

After Pentecost (Pfingsten), the previous 2021 summer semester regulations will come back into effect, meaning that courses with small groups can take place in-person again. Infection prevention measures must of course still be observed. The formats for individual courses will be decided by the respective instructors in consultation with their faculties. We ask that all instructors inform course participants of any changes in a timely manner.

Excursions and business travel can now be approved if they are deemed necessary. Necessity will be determined by the respective faculty directors together with the lecturers and supervisors together with their employees.

Internal events with external guests speakers may also take place. Committees will also return to in-person events in the future if possible and practical.

The University Directorate is still looking for vaccination service partners to procure vaccines for students and employees. We are currently in discussion with a number of potential partner institutions and will inform you as soon as an offer becomes available.

Even though restrictions have relaxed, the pandemic is still not over. Please do employ the following measures:

  • Medical masks or FFP2-masks (sometimes referred to as »Mund-Nasen-Schutz« or »MNS« in German) must be worn both during and between any lectures that are taking place in-person.
  • In the event of infection (i.e. a positive corona test), we ask that you begin self-isolating immediately and inform the university as quickly as possible via the online contact form: www.uni-weimar.de/coronavirus/meldeformular.
  • Be sure to take full advantage of the available twice-weekly testing opportunities, including the University’s rapid test centre (Bauhausstraße 7b) and the free self-tests. Students can pick up self-tests at the rapid test centre.

Advising Services

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Studierendenwerk Thüringen advising services offer assistance in your everyday studies, organising your studies, and dealing with study-related personal difficulties. Further information can be found at www.uni-weimar.de/de/universitaet/studium/beratungsangebote

Further Information on Study Conditions

The University Library is also expanding its services. Starting on 25.05.2021, library services as well as all of the library’s reading and work stations will be available until 6 pm.

Following Pentecost (Pfingsten), Studierendenwerk Thüringen will again be offering on-site dining in the Mensa tent.

Regular updates on the developments throughout the upcoming semester can be found at www.uni-weimar.de/studysafe, where you will also find up-to-date information on studying under pandemic conditions. This is also where you can find links to information from the individual faculties. Be sure to keep yourself informed on internal faculty specifications.

All applicable regulations and answers to important questions on studying and working under pandemic conditions can be found in the FAQ section at www.uni-weimar.de/coronavirus.

We wish you success throughout the rest of the summer semester. Be sure to keep both yourself and others safe.

On behalf of the Board of Governance

With warm regards

Prof. Dr. Winfried Speitkamp
President
