The Choice Was Yours: The following individual will be serving as your student representatives for the next year!

From 3 to 7 June 2026, students at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar were able to participate in the election of their Senate, Faculty Board, Equal Opportunity Advisory Board, and Assistants Council representatives. The electoral office released the final election results today, 12 June 2026. I extend my gratitude to all the candidates for their commitment and would like to say congratulations to all who were successfully elected.

»Future FormING« - Tag der Ingenieurwissenschaften (Engineering Day) on 17 June in Weimar

On Wednesday, 17 June 2026, the city of Weimar and the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are hosting the Thuringian »Tag der Ingenieurwissenschaften (Engineering Day)« together with the »Allianz Thüringer Ingenieurwissenschaften« universities, businesses, research institutions, and political representatives. From 9 am to 6 pm, the event will be highlighting the importance of engineering and STEM disciplines for Thuringia’s economic, technological, and social development. In attendance at the event were Thuringian Minister of Economic Affairs Colette Boos-John and star civil engineer Werner Sobek.

Beauty Hidden in Everyday Life – Invitation to International »Beauty Unseen« Exhibition

The beauty of quiet stories and invisible connections is often unnoticed in everyday life. Students from BAUHAUS4EU Alliance partner universities, including the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, are working to shed light on these hidden layers. The »BAUHAUS NOVA 2026: Beauty Unseen« exhibition is dedicated to aesthetics and exploring how beauty shapes our shared lives and experiences. The opening event will take place on 12 June in the Oberlichtsaal at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and features discussions with artists.

What Keeps Us Together? Weimar Media Scientists Receive Funding from the VolkswagenStiftung to Study Solidarity in a Post-Digital Age

Solidarity is a term on everyone’s lips – but what does the word even mean when social media exacerbates division and democratic structures find themselves under pressure? These are among the questions being examined by the new »Infrastructuring Solidarity: Towards Careful Abolition – A Post-Digital Media Theory of Solidarity« research project led by Jr. Prof. Jasmin Degeling from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Dr. Maja Figge from the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The VolkswagenStiftung is currently funding projects as part of its »Aufbruch – Neue Forschungsräume für die Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften« programme for a period of 18 months with a total of 332,321 euros.

30 Years of UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Between History, Present, and Future

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, the Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau, the German UNESCO Commission, the Thuringian Ministry of »Bildung, Wissenschaft und Kultur«, and the city of Weimar celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Bauhaus UNESCO World Heritage Sites during a ceremony in the Maurice-Halbwachs-Auditorium on 7 June 2026.

Rund 400 bis 500 Studieninteressierte und ihre Begleitpersonen nutzten am Samstag, 30. Mai 2026, die Gelegenheit, die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar beim Hochschulinformationstag (HIT) kennenzulernen. Mit einem vielfältigen Programm aus Studiengangvorstellungen, Informationsständen, Campusführungen und Einblicken in Werkstätten, Labore und Ateliers bot die Universität einen umfassenden Eindruck vom Studium und Leben in Weimar.

Vom 2. bis 7. Juni verwandelt eine Gruppe Studierender das leerstehende Café Harlekin in Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig in einen offenen Begegnungsort. Als Teil des bundesweiten Netzwerks »Urbane Liga« machen sie das Gebäude temporär zugänglich als Arbeits-, Ausstellungs- und Gesprächsraum für alle, die vorbeikommen möchten.

Villa Massimo Visits Weimar: Lecture by Lola Randl

With a diverse programme of art and cultural events, two academic cohorts from the the Deutschen Akademie Rom Villa Massimo will be visiting Weimar for the first time in the summer of 2026. 22 Rompreis recipients from the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 cohorts from the fields of architecture, art, literature, and composition will be showcasing their work at prominent partner institutions and in other public spaces throughout the city. The series begins with a guest lecture by film maker Lola Randl on 27 May 2026 at 5 pm in the Oberlichtsaal of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Noch den ganzen Sommer über können die Besucher*innen der Landesgartenschau in Leinefelde-Worbis im sogenannten »Blumenblock« Kunst aus der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar sehen. Im dritten Obergeschoss des leergezogenen Plattenbaus untersuchen zehn Studierende der Freien Kunst die Spuren ehemaliger Bewohner*innen und fragen nach Formen des Wohnens, Erinnerns und Zusammenlebens. Hier können Sie durch die Linse des Visuelle-Kommunikation-Studenten Richard Schött einen Blick in die Ausstellung werfen.

Recap: Career Networking Fair Brings Students and Businesses Together

From 4 to 13 May, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar hosted the Bauhaus Career Festival for the first time. The highlight of the Festival was the career networking fair, which was held in the Mensa am Park on 13 May 2026. Nearly 40 businesses from various industries were at the event to engage in conversations with students and graduates.

»Black in Thüringen« – Photography Exhibition by Yero Adugna Eticha in the University Library

Starting on 4 June 2026, photographer Yero Adugna Eticha’s »Black in Thüringen« exhibition will be on display in the University Library. Approximately 20 black and white portraits make up the exhibition and feature Black people who like, study, or work in Thuringia. Through his work, Adugna Eticha opens new perspectives on visibility, belonging, and social participation.

Diversity Day 2026: Thuringian Universities Take a Stand for Diversity and Democracy

German Diversity Day is celebrated across the country on 19 May. The annual event was first launched in 2012 by the Charta der Vielfalt (Charter of Diversity) with the aim of raising awareness for diversity in the workplace. With the theme »Demokratie braucht Vielfalt, Vielfalt braucht Demokratie« (Democracy Needs Diversity, Diversity Needs Democracy), Thuringian universities are once again joining the initiative – and for several weeks at that! From 18 May to 12 June 2026, the »Diversity-Tage an Thüringer Hochschulen« will feature a diverse programme centred around diversity and fighting discrimination.
