German Sustainability Award: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Recognised as a Green Educational Institution

Sustainability is a top priority for the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Specific measures in teaching, research, and operations are designed to reduce climate and environmental impacts. In addition to the energy-efficient renovation of University buildings, the conscious use of resources is also taken into consideration. Research and teaching projects that focus on sustainability help to promote knowledge transfer in the region. These efforts were recognized by the German Sustainability Award Foundation with a nomination in the »Schulen und Hochschulen« category for 2026.

Learn German, Work Creatively, Gain International Perspectives: The Bauhaus Summer School 2026 Kicks Off in Weimar

From 2 to 29 August, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be an international meeting point: Nearly 260 participants from over 50 countries will be attending the Bauhaus Summer School in Weimar. In language and specialist courses, academia and intercultural exchange come together. Guests are warmly invited to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus for the final presentation on Friday, 28 August beginning at 2 pm.

Renowned JANUS Award Presented to Weimar Student at International FullDome Festival

Lilian Fuchs, Media Art and Design student at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, was honoured with the JANUS Award in the »Best Emerging Artist« category during the 20th International FullDome Festival at the Zeiss-Planetarium Jena. Fuchs received the internationally renowned award for her 360° film »Remaining«. Four additional student productions from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar were also included in the Festival programme.

In an open letter to the staff of the Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’ Senate is sending a clear message to uphold academic and artistic freedom as a marker of a free and democratic society. The letter comes in the wake of the upcoming state elections in Saxony-Anhalt.

Scholarship Ceremony 2026: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Honours Commitment and Outstanding Achievements

On Friday, 10 July 2026, 50 Bauhaus-Universität Weimar scholarship recipients gathered during summaery in the Oberlichtsaal for this year’s Scholarship Ceremony. Students, doctoral candidates, and alumni took the opportunity to discuss their studies, research, and community engagement projects and to learn about the diverse paths they are all pursuing alongside their academic careers.

Forschung im Fokus: Mehr als eine Meinung – Die Wissenschaft(ler) hinter unseren digitalen Alltagsfragen

Ist Musik weniger wert, wenn sie von einer KI komponiert wurde? Was verraten Streamingdienst-Empfehlungen über uns? Und macht generative KI Beschäftigte tatsächlich produktiver? Fragen, zu denen wir uns im Alltag oft längst eine Meinung gebildet haben. Doch hält diese auch einer wissenschaftlichen Betrachtung stand? Im Fachbereich Medienmanagement der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar entstehen hierzu Forschungsarbeiten, die aktuelle Entwicklungen rund um Künstliche Intelligenz, Mediennutzung und digitale Arbeitswelten kritisch hinterfragen.

A Recent Piece of Bauhaus History: Modernist Archive Receives Significant Donation

Art pieces, drawings, and documentary materials from the »Bauhaus Psychology – Workshop with Robert Wilson« project will be added to the Modernist Archive’s collection at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Artist Jenny Brockmann and gallery owner Dorothée Nilsson officially handed over the archival materials on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. The total value of the donation is an estimated 19,000 euros.

Unter der Überschrift »Wo die Moderne wohnen lernte« berichtete die TLZ am Montag, den 13. Juli 2026 von der Stuttgarter Weissenhofsiedlung, die im kommenden Jahr 100 Jahre alt wird. Professor Dr. Hans-Rudolf Meier, Professorin Dr. Barbara Schönig und Professorin Dr. Daniela Spiegel von der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar haben dazu einen Kommentar verfasst, welcher am 16. Juli 2026 als Gastbeitrag in der TLZ erschienen ist. Dieser befasst sich mit einem kulturpolitischen Narrativ, das darauf abzielt, die Architektur der klassischen Moderne zu diskreditieren.

2026 Teaching Awards: Five Teaching Formats Recognised for Outstanding Commitment

On Thursday 9 July 2026, the StuKo (Student Government) awarded the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Teaching Award to five teaching formats that students rated as particularly successful. The awards ceremony took place in front of the Main Building as part of the opening of the annual summaery exhibition.

15th International Bauhaus-Colloquium Published Programme – Interdisciplinary Conference to Discuss Political Conditions of Knowledge Production

Research is considered the foundation of knowledge: But how is research defined today, and what does it mean? Who decides which questions are asked, which methods are recognised, and which topics receive funding? And how are technological infrastructures, artificial intelligence, and social conflicts influencing research? These are the questions that the 15th International Bauhaus-Colloquium will be focussing on from 4 to 7 November 2026 at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Under the title »Politics of Research«, the conference, which will be held in English, will bring together nearly 130 international researchers from the fields of architecture and urban planning, art and design, and media and cultural studies to discuss the political, institutional, and societal conditions of research. The Conference programme is now available online and registration is now open.

Wie kommen Studierende und Mitarbeitende zur Bauhaus-Universität Weimar? Welche Herausforderungen begegnen ihnen auf dem täglichen Weg zur Universität? Und welche Mobilitätsangebote werden künftig benötigt?

Mit diesen Fragen beschäftigt sich das Teilprojekt Mobilität im Rahmen des Förderprojekts »Transformationsplan für die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar – TraFo 2030«. Ziel des Gesamtprojekts ist es, die Universität in den Bereichen Energie, Mobilität und Lebensqualität zukunftsfähig weiterzuentwickeln.

Die Juniorprofessur Konstruktives Entwerfen und Erproben der Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar lädt gemeinsam mit den Studierenden zum diesjährigen Baustellenfest auf dem Versuchsgut Dornburg ein. Die Veranstaltung findet am Samstag, 11. Juli 2026, ab 15 Uhr auf der Domäne Dornburg, Markt 2, 07774 Dornburg-Camburg, statt.

Festivalwochenende: WO DIE CITRONEN GLÜH’N – VILLA MASSIMO ZU GAST IN WEIMAR

Vom 23. bis 26. Juli 2026 wird Weimar erstmals mit einem Festival an Kunst- und Kulturveranstaltungen zum Ort einer gemeinsamen Präsentation der Deutschen Akademie Rom Villa Massimo mit zwei akademischen Jahrgängen. Unter dem Titel »Wo die Citronen glüh’n – Villa Massimo zu Gast in Weimar« zeigen 22 Rompreistragende der Jahrgänge 2024/25 und 2025/26 aus den Bereichen Architektur, Kunst, Literatur und Komposition ihre Arbeiten in renommierten Partnerinstitutionen sowie im öffentlichen Raum der Stadt. Das Eröffnungswochenende bildet den Auftakt des Festivals, während die Ausstellungen anschließend noch über mehrere Monate in Weimar zu sehen sind.

Ziel ist es, die Universität in den Bereichen Energie, Mobilität und Lebensqualität zukunftsfähig auszurichten. Der Transformationsplan bildet damit die Grundlage für eine umfassende Weiterentwicklung des Campus im Sinne von Nachhaltigkeit, Klimaschutz und Ressourceneffizienz.

Automated and Networked Public Transportation: Opportunities for Thuringia

Rural regions in particular benefit from self-driving and on-demand bus systems when it comes to making mobility services more flexible, better adapted to demand, and more cost-effective. Pilot projects in Saalfeld-Rudolstadt, Bad Berka, Ilmenau, and Weimar are testing and scientifically evaluating how these systems could be deployed in Thuringia and beyond. This work is being coordinated by the newly established »Kompetenzzentrum für automatisiertes und vernetztes Fahren (AVF)« led by the Professorship of Transport System Planning at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

What happens between a question and its answer? Between an impulse and the reaction to it? The theme of »prompt‽« focusses on exactly that: triggers, reflection, and experimentation. At summaery2026, the Faculty of Media will be presenting projects that show how input influences virtual worlds, how intelligent systems respond to questions, and how new perspectives emerge when people and technology intersect.
