Virtual Ceremony for Scholarship Holders
On 8 July 2021, all of the scholarship holders joined in virtual celebration with University President Prof. Dr. Winfried Speitkamp, professors and Deutschlandstipendium sponsors. The first ever virtual scholarship ceremony offered all the scholarship holders, professors and private funding providers an opportunity to get to know each other and network in discussion groups. For the first time ever, this new format also allowed funding recipients currently living abroad to participate.
Exceptional achievements and outstanding commitment
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Bauhaus scholarships promote exceptional students who have demonstrated or show promise of outstanding achievement in or an outstanding aptitude for their area of knowledge. The scholarship holders identify strongly with the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, volunteer their time and skills to the university and the city of Weimar, and display an interdisciplinary perspective.
Ten years of the Deutschlandstipendium – including in Weimar
Thirteen particularly talented, high-achieving students qualified for the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship, jointly financed by 50% private donations and 50% state funds. The Deutschlandstipendium is a Federal Ministry for Education and Research initiative to promote young talent, in which the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has been involved ever since its inception in 2011. It is made possible by donations from supporters such as Thüringer Aufbaubank, Freundeskreis der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar e.V., MKP Marx Krontal Partner GmbH, the Neufert Foundation, the Ernst Abbe Foundation, private individuals and university alumni. At the scholarship ceremony, Stefan Walter of Thüringer Aufbaubank emphasised how important it was to his institution that people and initiatives in Thuringia be funded as early a stage as possible.
Promising final projects by students
Six exceptional students demonstrated outstanding achievements in and a particular aptitude for their area of knowledge that suggested they were likely to produce an exceptional final project. They were able to use funding from a Bauhaus final project scholarship to cover their particular financial outlay, for example stemming from project-related tasks for final art and design projects.
Ph.D.s and projects drawing on and combining research and art
Funding via other scholarship formats means that projects by nineteen alumni, doctoral candidates and postdoctoral students across all four faculties will be taking on new form: support is provided for preparing for a doctoral degree, working on a doctoral project, restarting a Ph.D. after family leave, or the final stage before finalising a dissertation. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar also uses scholarships to support and enable further steps by research and art alumni, as well as research projects in the early postdoc phase.
