CITY CYCLING 2026: Weimar Cycles – And the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Does Too
From 18 May to 17 June 2026, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be taking part once again in the international »CITY CYCLING« campaign: All University members are encouraged to cycle as many of their daily journeys as possible and to send the collective message supporting sustainable mobility, active environmental protection, and improved health in everyday life.
The initiative is organised by Climate Alliance, Europe’s largest network for climate protection, and aims at visibly boosting environmentally-friendly methods of transportation. CITY CYCLING also offers the opportunity to naturally integrate exercise into everyday life: Regular cycling strengthens the cardiovascular system and supports general well-being.
Whether you’re a keen cyclist or an occasional rider – everyone can join in! Whether it’s your daily commute or just for fun, in Weimar or your hometown – every kilometre counts.
Participation is Easy
Joining in is simple, straightforward, and takes just a minute:
- Select your state and municipality and register for free or reactivate an existing account at www.stadtradeln.de.
- Join the »Bauhaus-Universität Weimar« team
- Record all the kilometres you cycle during the campaign period, either manually in the online portal or by using the CITY CYCLING-App
»Every year, businesses, universities, friends, and families register and take part in city cycle together. For some, it is a playful challenge to be healthier and more active. Others get to know new routes or discover potential areas for improvement in cycling infrastructure. Local authorities in Germany use the information collected through cycling to learn more about cyclists’ behaviour. Planners can use this information to make sure that cycling becomes safer and more appealing for everyone. Let’s go, Bauhaus-Uni!«, says Alexandra Hunger from the Professorship of Transport System Planning at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
Let’s hop on our bikes together for a liveable Weimar, sustainable mobility, and improved everyday health!
