Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes Presents Ideas for the New European Bauhaus on 20 April 2022
EU Committees Lend an Ear to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
What has President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen’s call to establish a new Bauhaus movement in Europe in 2020 triggered? Should the New European Bauhaus be put under the microscope and further examined as a solution to climate change in order to reach even more citizens? These are the questions that the Members of the European Parliament are currently pondering. Based on proposals from the »Industrie, Forschung und Energie« and the »Kultur und Bildung« committees, a number of chosen experts, including Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes, Interim President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, will be reporting on their experiences.
Prof. Emes will also be speaking as the academic director of the New European Bauhaus initiative and is being supported by the university, as well as other European partners. In January 2022, they applied together to be chosen as one of the EU’s first Lighthouse Projects. »It is my great honour and pleasure to present our ideas to the EU committees and to speak with the delegates about the potential that the New European Bauhaus holds for Europe«, explains Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes. An exchange is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 20 April 2022 with the chair of the meeting digitally connecting guests.
A joint report from the two committees prepared for the European Parliament is the motive for the hearing: In the report, a call is made for the New European Bauhaus to be accessible, affordable, socially just, and inclusive for all citizens. Furthermore, there is a need for well-informed local and regional institutions, as well as adequate funding for these projects to be successfully carried out.
Great opportunities are recognised in the New European Bauhaus. The innovative cultural movement holds the potential to establish Europe as a global leader in architecture, design, culture, technology and energy efficiency by promoting better ways of living together. »At the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, we see these opportunities in the same way and believe that we can contribute through our presentation of the Bauhaus Commons Project«, concludes Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes.
The hearing will be accessible via livestream on 2 April 2022 from 1:45 to 3:45 pm at: https://multimedia.europarl.europa.eu/en/webstreaming/cult_20220420-1345-COMMITTEE-ITRE
