Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes Appointed to Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk’s New Board of Directors
The MDR Broadcasting Council elected a new Administrative Council for the public broadcaster during its meeting on 16 May 2022 The MDR Board of Directors has ten members in total: four from Saxony, three from Saxony-Anhalt and three from Thuringia.
Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes, President (interim) and provisional head of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, was elected a member of the new Board of Directors for the Free State of Thuringia. She has been a member of the Board since 2016. Birgit Diezel (former President of the Thuringian State Parliament and Minister of Finance) and Petra Pollak (lawyer) represent the Free State of Thuringia alongside Professor Emes. The Board of Directors will hold its constituent meeting on 27 June 2022 and will elect a chair and deputy chair during this first meeting.
The MDR Board of Directors is, among others, responsible for monitoring the Director-General, approving the MDR’s annual business plan and the annual financial statements, selecting the auditors and approving legal transactions and decisions in accordance with §28 MDR-StV. The Board of Directors has ten members whose term in office last six years. The chairpersonship alternates between Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony every two years. Thuringia will hold the chair for the coming two years.
