Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s international profile strengthened through German-Argentine doctoral programme
For the next five years, graduate students will be supervised by advisors from both Weimar and Córdoba. The aim of the programme is to enable the doctoral students to gain experience in the field of urban studies that can enrich the professional discourse in Europe and Latin America. The languages used in the programme are German, Spanish and English. A central component of the doctoral programme is the yearlong research periods that take place at each of the universities. After successfully completing the defence of the dissertation in Córdoba or Weimar, where representatives from both universities are present, the candidates are awarded a double degree. This doctoral programme, which is funded through the German-Argentine University Centre (DAHZ/CUAA), is the first of its kind at a university in Thuringia and one of the first in Germany.
The establishment of this binational doctoral programme represents a strengthening of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s and the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism’s profile in terms of research, graduate student support and its increased focus on internationalisation.
The programme is coordinated in Weimar at the Institute for European Urbanism by the professorship of Urban Studies and Social Research under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Frank Eckhardt.
The Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, with over 110,000 students and numerous well-known alumni, is one of the most prestigious universities in Latin America and one of the oldest and most important universities in Argentina.
