Lectures, Exhibitions, Innovation Walk - »Tag der Ingenieurwissenschaften« (Engineering Day) 2025 in Jena

On 4 June 2025, the fourth annual »Tag der Ingenieurwissenschaften« (Engineering Day) will be held in the auditorium of the Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule Jena. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Bauhaus-Institute for Infrastructure Solutions (b.is) will be participating with several expert lectures and an exhibition on current innovation projects on mobility, circular economies, water, and energy. All those interested are cordially invited to the event starting at 9:30 am!

Works of Art Take Over Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Administrative Offices

The »nova space« University Gallery is breaking new ground: With the »Liebe in Zeiten der Bürokratie« (love in times of bureaucracy) exhibition, it is relocating the classic exhibition space to somewhere you might least expect it – the offices of administrative staff. Tea kitchens and meeting rooms are also transformed into exhibition spaces, administrative staff become hosts, and works of art become flatmates in everyday office life. The exhibition will be accessible at set times as part of guided tours.

Social Imagining: Researchers at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Successfully Took Part in the New »Imaginamics« Cluster of Excellence

Yesterday evening, 22 May 2025, it was confirmed that the »Imaginamics. Practices and Dynamics of Social Imagining« Cluster of Excellence, submitted under the leadership of Friedrich Schiller University Jena, has been awarded funding within the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments. This is also significant for the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, which is involved in the project through three of its leading researchers.

Der Thüringer Wald ist Mythos, Lebensraum, Erholungsgebiet und Wirtschaftsfaktor – doch was bleibt davon in Zeiten von Klimakrise, Urbanisierung und demografischem Wandel? Welche Zukunftspfade lassen sich in dieser symbolträchtigen Landschaft im einstigen Grünen Herz Deutschlands entwickeln? Das Projekt »Landschaft im Anthropozän: Thüringer Wald – zwischen Imagination, Ressource und Realität« sucht darauf Antworten und zwar ganz konkret in der Region Masserberg.

BEYOND NOW: Between Firs and Fiction – Shaping the Thuringian Forest in the Face of Change

The Thuringian Forest is a myth, habitat, recreational area, and economic factor – but how much of it is left in times of climate crisis, urbanisation, and demographic change? What kind of future can be developed in this symbolic landscape in the former Green Heart of Germany? The »Landscape in the Anthropocene: Thuringian Forest - Between Imagination, Resources, and Reality« project is seeking to answer these questions, specifically in the Masserberg region.

BEYOND NOW – PostCompost: Students Look at the Thuringian Forest Through an Artistic Research Lens

What happens when a forest changes? Students from the »PostCompost – Forest Reset« research project are examining the transformation of the Thuringian Forest with instructors Klaus Fritze-Herbst and Christian Doeller. Using artistic and scientific methods, the group is making it possible to understand how nature, landscapes, and habitats are evolving and reshaping themselves.

Produktdesign (Product Design) Students Receive Rimowa Design Prize Honourable Mention

Niels Cremer and Tom Kemter received an honourable mention at the Rimowa Design Prize ceremony on Tuesday, 13 May 2025. Their »Standalone« redesign of the traditional crutch won over the jury. The Produktdesign (Product Design) students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar received a total of 10,000 euros in prize money for their design.

Prof. Dr. Guido Morgenthal wird Vizepräsident für Forschung und Projekte an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Am Mittwoch, 7. Mai 2025, hat der Senat den neuen Vizepräsidenten im Präsidium der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar bestätigt: Prof. Dr. Guido Morgenthal wird in den nächsten drei Jahren das Amt des Vizepräsidenten für Forschung und Projekte bekleiden. Die Senatsmitglieder stimmten in ihrer Sitzung dem Vorschlag des Präsidenten Prof. Peter Benz mit großer Mehrheit zu. Der bisherige Vizepräsident Prof. Dr. Timon Rabczuk hatte sein Amt aus persönlichen Gründen niedergelegt. In seiner Sitzung verabschiedete der Senat Prof. Rabczuk und Präsident Prof. Peter Benz dankte ihm für sein Engagement in den vergangenen zwei Jahren. Mit der Wahl von Prof. Morgenthal ist das Präsidiumsteam nun wieder vollständig.

Prof. Dr. Guido Morgenthal Appointed Vice President for Projects and Research at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

On Wednesday, 7 May 2025, the Senate confirmed the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s new Vice Presidents. Prof. Dr. Guido Morgenthal will hold the office of Vice President for Projects and Research for the next three years. During their session, Senate members voted strongly in favour of President Prof. Peter Benz’s proposal. Prof. Dr. Timon Rabczuk, the previous Vice President, resigned from the position due to personal reasons. During the session, the Senate bid farewell to Prof. Rabczuk and President Prof. Peter Benz thanked him for his commitment over the past two years. With the appointment of Prof. Morgenthal, the Presidential Board is again complete.

Verkehrssicherheit in Weimar: Masterstudent analysiert Fußgängerquerungsstellen

Im Rahmen seiner Masterarbeit »Untersuchung des Verhaltens der Verkehrsteilnehmer an baulich ausgestalteten Querungsstellen ohne Vorrang« untersucht Aron Beyer, Student an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, fünf Praxisbeispiele. Dabei werden ab Dienstag, den 6. Mai 2025, Verkehrsbeobachtungen in Form von mehrstündigen Videoaufnahmen durchgeführt. Ziel der Abschlussarbeit ist es, anhand der Aufnahmen die unterschiedlich ausgeführten Querungsstellen im Aspekt der Verkehrssicherheit mit verschiedenen Parametern zu bewerten.

Digital Watermarks Help Identify AI-Generated Texts

Whether it’s a chatbot, language assistant, or automatic text generation – artificial intelligence is being used in many areas. But how can we prove whether a text was written by a human or generated through a computer programme? Are invisible watermarks the solution to identifying authorship? The new »Lantmark« research project, which began at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in early April 2025 and is being funded through the BMBF with nearly 1 million euros, is hoping to answer these questions.

Studienprojekt »Die neue Mitte Erfurt - der Erfurter Anger« startet mit öffentlicher Auftaktveranstaltung

Wie kann der Erfurter Anger als zentrale Lebensader der Innenstadt neu gedacht werden? Mit dieser spannenden Leitfrage startet am 24. April 2025 das Semesterprojekt »Die neue Mitte Erfurt – der Erfurter Anger« der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. In Kooperation mit dem Dezernat Kultur und Stadtentwicklung der Stadt Erfurt widmen sich Studierende der Urbanistik in den kommenden Monaten den aktuellen Herausforderungen und Zukunftsperspektiven dieses bedeutenden Stadtraums.

Reconstruction After the War – Prospectives for a Sustainable Syria

At least two million buildings have been destroyed in Syria as a result of the war. The majority of these buildings were concrete or steel structures. An international workshop scheduled to take place in Weimar on 24 and 25 April 2024 will focus on the rubble from these buildings can be recycled into valuable raw material. Nearly 100 partners from science, the industry, and politics, including the United Nations (UN), are expected to attend the event.

Prof. Ursula Damm Wins »Kunst am Bau« Competition in Berlin

Ursula Damm, professor and media artist in the Faculty of Art and Design, has been awarded first prize in the »Kunst am Bau« competition for her design »Eine biologische Uhr« (a biological clock). The competition coincided with the construction of the new »Kooperationsgebäudes Biodiversität« on campus at the Freie Universität Berlin. The jury recommended that Damm’s idea be implemented.

»Beyond Now«: Zehn Projekte fördert die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar innerhalb ihres Themenjahres

Zum Beginn des Sommersemesters, am Donnerstag, 3. April 2025, hat die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar erstmals ihre sechs Semester umfassenden Jahresthemen vorgestellt. Im aktuellen Themenschwerpunkt »Beyond Now ⸺ Umwelten« rückt sie gezielt Projekte und Akteur*innen in den Mittelpunkt, die sich in Forschung und Lehre, Wissenschaft und Kunst mit der Wechselwirkung zwischen Lebewesen und ihren materiellen sowie immateriellen Umwelten beschäftigen.

The current annual theme, »Beyond Now ⸺ Environment«, focussed on projects and partners that explore the interaction between living beings and their material and immaterial environments through research, teaching, science, and art.
