Curriculum Vitae

Jan Willmann is Professor of Design Theory and Research at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar where he is also leading the Bauhaus Design Laboratory (D–LAB). Given his international path and multiple interests, the research and teaching focus of Willmann is rethinking and expanding the roles and boundaries of design and technology, media and culture. As such, a central emphasis is put on contemporary design cultures with a particular emphasis on digital, materialist, and epistemic perspectives – and their embedding in larger cultural and historical contexts. Jan Willmann has pioneered novel research initiatives, secured substantial research funding, and is the author of the first anthology on robot-based design and construction (The Robotic Touch, Zurich, 2014). His articles have been published internationally in Architectural Design, GAM, 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing, The Architectural Review, T&A, IEEE, Springer Nature, Elsevier Automation & Construction, IJAC, and DETAIL, among others.
