In lectures, seminars, design and planning projects (for the B.Sc./M.Sc. Architecture and B.Sc. Urban Studies /M.Sc. European Urban Studies degree programmes), the Chair of Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning imparts basic knowledge to be able to read, describe and design urban landscapes as a complex system of natural, socio-economic and cultural processes.

An understanding of the diverse interrelationships of urban landscapes and the possibilities of their design should be developed. Knowledge of legal, economic and informal instruments and procedures of landscape planning is presented, as well as knowledge of urban ecology and its application in urban planning contexts (focus on degree programmes in Urbanism) and open space planning and landscape architecture strategies for landscape-based, sustainable urban development are examined (degree programmes in Architecture and Urbanism).

The introduction to landscape architectural design takes place in design projects at various scales - from urban open spaces to urban regions. The ability to "link" design to existing contexts, which is expressed in context-, process- and exchange-oriented action, is trained and the promotion of idea generation in design is supported (focus on degree programmes Architecture).

In various contexts, methods of design research are tested and developed. Rational and cognitive methods are combined with intuitive approaches in knowledge production.
