In December 2024, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar held a ceremony to rename its auditorium maximum the »Maurice-Halbwachs-Auditorium« in honor of the French sociologist and philosopher. The ceremony on 4 December 2024 featured numerous speeches by prominent academics – these can now be read in the volume »Es gibt also keine Erinnerung ohne Wahrnehmung« / »Il n'y a donc pas de souvenir sans perception«, which has just been published by Bauhaus-Universitätsverlag.

From 6 to 8 February 2026, a student-organized Winterwerkschau will take place for the ninth time. Students from all faculties are invited to take part. You can register online for the semester show from now until Friday, January 9, 2026.

With its application-oriented cutting-edge research into resource-saving building materials and forward-looking construction methods, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar was represented at the international trade fair iENA – Ideas, Inventions, New Products in November 2025: Four patent applications have now been awarded two gold and two silver medals. At the award ceremony on 11 December 2025 at the Technical University of Ilmenau, the scientists were presented with their medals and certificates in a festive ceremony.

But how reliable are they really? The Weimar Department of Informatics is using current AI systems as an opportunity to critically examine their output: its meaning, correctness, and consequences for our own thinking. On 18 December 2025, at 5 pm, the Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar invites you to its traditional Christmas lecture at Bauhausstraße 11.

Weimar is a double UNESCO World Heritage Site: as a place of »Classicism« and as part of the serial World Heritage Site »Bauhaus and its Sites in Weimar, Dessau, and Bernau.« But how does this cultural landscape actually affect residents and visitors? Der Masterstudiengang »Bauingenieurwesen - Konstruktiver Ingenieurbau« der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar schneidet im aktuellen Hochschulranking des ZEIT Verlags überdurchschnittlich gut ab und überzeugt in zahlreichen Kategorien. Besonders positiv bewertet wurde die Betreuung, Studienorganisation und digitale Lehre sowie eine starke Forschungsanbindung. Mehr als 8.000 Masterstudierende aus ganz Deutschland wurden im Rahmen der Erhebung befragt. Im Fokus standen dabei u. a. die Fächer Bau- und Umweltingenieurwesen, Elektrotechnik, Maschinenbau und Material- und Werkstofftechnik.

Das Schülerforschungszentrum Weimar (SFZ) blickt auf ein äußerst förderreiches Jahr zurück, in dem zahlreiche Sachspenden und finanzielle Unterstützungen regionaler Partner*innen das Bildungsangebot maßgeblich erweitert haben. Diese helfen künftig dabei, Kindern und Jugendlichen einen unmittelbaren Zugang zu MINT-Themen zu ermöglichen.

Following several years of extensive refurbishment and modernisation, the university building at Coudraystraße 7 has been fully reoccupied since early December 2025. With the completion of the first construction phase, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar now has a state-of-the-art location offering laboratory, seminar and office spaces for several professorships. Work on the ground floor – including seminar rooms, computer pools and specialised laboratory areas – is still ongoing. Completion is scheduled for spring 2026.

In der Vortragsreihe spricht der Direktor der Gedenkstätte Buchenwald, Jens-Christian Wagner, am 18. Dezember 2025 über Erinnerungskultur unter Druck. Er thematisiert Angriffe auf die Gedenkstättenarbeit im Zeichen des politischen Rechtsrucks. Die Veranstaltung findet in Präsenz und online statt.

On 3 December, the new staff at the University were welcomed as part of the NEW@BAUHAUS programme. The event, which is held twice a year, offers newly hired colleagues the chance to network with one another and learn about the important aspects of everyday life at the University.

The Presidential Board invited University members to the Winter Reception on 3 December, bringing the year to a close together. New and familiar faces struck up conversations over hot drinks, music, and toasty fires.

The Minister President Conference has decided to establish the Media Council’s headquarters at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
