X.MediaArchitecture: 10 years interdisciplinary, international and innovative.

This was the motto of the Master programme in Media Architecture for its ten-year jubilee during summaery 2015 in Weimar. For the jubilee, students developed an exhibit and accompanying events with the coordination of Dr. Ing. Sabine Zierold. There was an open invitation to the festivities held from 9 to 12 July 2015.

»We want to show what Media Architecture is, what it was and how it can be. Thirteen students from eight countries and five continents worked for weeks leading up to the event to plan and implement the programme for the Jubilee. I am also pleased that alumni from many parts of the world will join us and talk about their working environments,« says Sabine Zierold, programme coordinator for MediaArchitecture.

An Alumni PechaKucha and information about the origins of the programme, as well as the key areas of research of the media architecture field complemented the exhibits and presented a diverse picture of the field of MediaArchitecture.

Final and semester projects were exhibited, categorised by the purpose of the work - such as, »to Experiment«,»to enhance experiments«, or to »encourage interaction«. The projects ranged from app and web-based work, object interaction and installations to exhibit design, urban interfaces, and media façades – the interface of the fields of architecture and media were presented in local-global, temporary-permanent, and small-large contexts.

A special feature of the exhibit was a tagging system that enabled viewers to tap into richer contexts and greater detail on an accompanying website. The student projects were organised into a number of categories, such as purpose of the project, standard, year of study or discipline, and can be sorted with the help of logos: uni-weimar.de/xmediaarchitecture
