Two Projects from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism Nominated for the Thuringian State Prize for Building Culture
Nominated projects from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar:
- »HolzBauFeld Gehren« semester project by Jannik Petry and Jonas Musil
A design by two Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students seeking to establish a new culture of wood construction in Gehren and thus create momentum for this declining, sprawling town - »Horizonte« initiative
A student-organised initiative discussing current social issues with a focus on architecture, design and urban studies via a lecture series and a magazine published once a semester
The new 2020/2021 Thuringian State Prize for Building Culture replaces the Thuringian State Prizes for Architecture & Urban Design and for Engineering Services which were offered in alternate years until 2019; it has also been expanded to include elements of the »Thuringian Prize to Promote Building Culture«. It is organised by the Thuringian Ministry of Infrastructure and Agriculture in conjunction with the Foundation for Building Culture, the Thuringian Chamber of Architects and the Thuringian Chamber of Engineers.
»With the new Thuringian State Prize for Building Culture, we are seeking to demonstrate the Thuringian claim that ›we have a tradition of the future‹ can be expressed via building culture. We have sought projects that tackle future questions relating to functionality and highlight the diversity and inclusive nature of building culture«, Minister of Infrastructure Benjamin-Immanuel Hoff said regarding the reorganisation of the prize.
