The Programme is in the Name: Sprachenzentrum | Centre for Language and Cultural Learning with a New Name and New Offers for University Members
»The new name is a bilingual reflection of how language learning is always connected to cultural learning. This might sound mundane, but it illustrates that learning ›foreign‹ languages together is a way of making joyful and sometimes challenging discoveries«, says Dr. Ulrike Garde, Director of the Sprachenzentrum | Centre for Language and Cultural Learning on the name change. A newly designed postcard provides a clear visual of this step.
How has University President Prof. Peter Benz experienced multilingualism in his everyday life, for example? Dr. Garde asks him about this and about the languages he speaks in an interview that can be found here.
The Sprachenzentrum | Centre for Language and Cultural Learning is inviting you to come and experience the joys of linguistic and cultural diversity and the path to understanding in the 2024/2025 winter semester: The Markt 21 Gallery will be hosting the »NOUS & MOI. Eine Auseinandersetzung mit demokratischer Teilhabe« event series from 18 October to 10 December funded in part by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar »Demokratiefonds«. It all begins with photo exhibition vernissage, which will be opened by Prof. Peter Benz on 18 October at 8 pm.
A series of film evenings in various languages, an English-language exchange with students from a Bauhaus4EU partner university on »Liveable Cities« in the Technical & Scientific English course, experimenting with AI tools in the preparatory DaF courses: all this is open to you. And of course, a broad range of standard language courses will be offered again this semester. This includes:
- German as a Foreign Language (A1-C1; additional courses for employees)
- English and »Everyday English for Employees«
- Français
- Italiano and »Lingua e Cultura. L'Italia a Weimar«
- Español
- Svenska
- as well as Arabic, Japanese, Portuguese, and Turkish based on demand.
