The Bauhaus100 summer at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
The 2019 Bauhaus Centenary is reaching its peak this summer with further programme highlights for our guests, students, teachers and staff.
›GIVE ME A B‹
From 11 to 14 July 2019, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is inviting guests once again to its ›summaery‹ annual show. As well as exhibition openings, performances, lectures, presentations, and a wide variety of events and individual exhibitions across the entire campus, students and teachers will also be introducing their own discourses, artworks, activities and research projects.
Building on this year’s motto of ›GIVE ME A B‹, students and teachers will be considering the personal and collective impact of Bauhaus’s heritage. The result will be an individual and creative examination of the Bauhaus vision and will create a living, contemporary, collaborative image of Bauhaus.
›Radiophonic Spaces‹ – an immersive tour
The walk-through radio archive ›Radiophonic Spaces‹ will be delighting visitors to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar University Library from 26 July to 19 September 2019, following residencies at the Museum Tinguely in Basel and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin.
The exhibition incorporates ephemeral radio art into the archival space of a museum, and thus links up two worlds that are closer than you might initially think. Organised by the Professorship of Experimental Radio at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the exhibition combines an artistic examination of radio art and broadcasting with a scientific research project. The results of this creative interplay unfold as visitors follow an immersive route within a space representing around 200 treasures of international radio art. Historical and contemporary works are examined side by side: from Antonin Artaud, John Cage and László Moholy-Nagy to Michaela Mélian, Milo Rau and Natascha Sadr Haghighian.
›The topicality of Bauhaus – receptions for a modern education‹
For the first time ever, the ›Denkraum.Bauhaus‹ conference is combining the sixth International Symposium on Architecture Development with the Association for Art Education (BDK). From 27 to 29 September 2019, this interdisciplinary configuration will be examining the question of providing a modern education to the next generation, and the extent to which architects, artists and designers must take up positions of responsibility when it comes to an education in independence and social participation. A variety of presentations and workshops will discuss the visions and educational approaches of Bauhaus for modern education, together with around 300 experts from school and non-school environments. The symposium will focus primarily on areas such as experiencing and shaping complexity, taking responsibility for virtual realities, and fostering community and the public sphere.
›All Day Revolution – Our Beloved Digitality‹
The third exhibition of the Bauhaus100 showcase exhibition series at the Eigenheim Gallery Weimar/Berlin is tackling digitality’s creeping revolution within our society. From 30 August to 13 October 2019 at the Berlin branch of the Eigenheim Gallery, artists from a variety of fields will be examining how far digital innovations have changed areas of human life. The intertwined relationship between humans and technology means that communication behaviour, socialisation processes and language culture are all affected – with plenty of potential for further development in this regard. Is digitalisation threatening values such as democracy in our society? How can business and politics deal with this huge change? And is this whole process a blessing or a curse? Questions such as these will be creatively examined in the exhibition within the gallery space via both artistic items and presentations.
