Safety Information in Weimar: Demonstrations on Saturday, 26 April 2025
Dear members and affiliates of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar,
Dear all,
It has been announced that numerous demonstrations will take place across Germany on Saturday, 26 April 2025 under the motto »Gemeinsam für Deutschland« (together for Germany). These events have been initiated by conservative, far-right and »Querdenker« movements. One of these rallies is set to take place in Weimar at 2 pm at Theaterplatz, followed by a demonstration through the city centre.
In light of this event, the Presidential Board of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has agreed to a request made by the Thuringian police to use the sanitary facilities in the university buildings below:
- Coudraystraße 13
- Steubenstraße 6 (Foyer of the University Library)
Police officers will have access to these buildings from 9 am to 9 pm, meaning that an increased police presence should be expected at these locations. These buildings can of course continue to be used as normal by university members and affiliates, as well as University Library users.
As your Presidential Board, we ask you to be especially attentive on Saturday during the expected demonstrations and counter-demonstrations and to take care of yourself and others. We urge you to avoid conflict situations and to be aware of your surroundings.
Weimar’s »Bürgerbündnis gegen Rechtsextremismus« (BgR) (citizens against right-wing extremism) is organising three counter-demonstrations together with other social initiatives under the motto »Platz für Demokratie« (space for democracy). These will begin at 1 pm at the following locations:
- Wielandplatz
- Sophienstiftsplatz
- Goetheplatz / Corner of Geleitstraße
Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is committed to a democratic coexistence and a diverse, open-minded society. Should you wish to make a visible statement for open-mindedness and tolerance, you can do so using our GOLD STATT BRAUN (gold instead of brown) posters. The posters stand for diversity, respect, and tolerance. They send a clear message against all forms of marginalisation and right-wing extremism.
Posters can be picked up at the following locations:
- University Library
- Main Building (Ground Floor)
- Amalienstraße 13 (Ground Floor)
- Bauhaus.Atelier
Do not hesitate to call the police (tel. 110) immediately in case of an emergency.
