Oscar nomination for alumnus of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
Guido Wolter, visual effects supervisor, has been nominated for an Oscar for his work on the Hollywood film »Sinners«. Wolter studied Media Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar from 2000 to 2006. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, 15 March 2026, in Los Angeles. We're keeping our fingers crossed!
The film »Sinners«, on which Guido Wolter worked as visual effects supervisor, received a total of 16 Oscar nominations – a record – making it one of the most successful productions of the current year. Set in 1932 in the Mississippi Delta, the film tells the story of two brothers who return from Chicago and want to establish a music venue and meeting place, only to be confronted by vampires.
VFX played a central role in the work on Sinners. »One focus was on the visual effects for the so-called ›twinning‹ of Michael B. Jordan, who plays a dual role in the film. Scenes involving close physical contact, in which the characters fight and wrestle but still appear credible as a single entity in real space, were particularly challenging,« explains Guido Wolter. He sees the nomination as a team achievement. "Visual effects are not created single-handedly, but through collaboration, trust and a shared understanding of design and quality. The fact that this work is now being recognised in this way means a great deal to me."
After completing his studies in Weimar, Guido Wolter worked internationally as a VFX supervisor on numerous film productions. In recent years, he has been involved in films such as »Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,« »Elvis« and »Star Wars: Episode VIII.« Wolter says of his time studying at the Bauhaus University Weimar: »The approach taught there, of understanding design as a combination of concept, technology and effect, continues to shape my work to this day.«
We warmly congratulate our alumnus on his Oscar nomination!
