Open Access Publications: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Receives DFG Follow-Up Funding of Nearly 120,000 Euros
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is continuing to support for Open Access and will receive 118,600 euros in funding from the DFG for the period of 2026 to 2028. Support from the »Open-Access-Publikationskosten« programme provides researchers with the means to publish articles in Open Access journals.
Open Access books produced through DGF projects or research networks are also eligible for funding. The review of the application emphasizes that the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has successfully implemented its ambitious Open Access funding programme during the first funding phase, which led to the full approval of its continuation for a second phase.
»This follow-up funding helps secure the financing of our researchers’ publications for another three years and further strengthens the sustainability of the Open Access Publication Fund«, explained Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz, Director of Weimar’s University Library.
The Open Access Publication Fund supports freely and publicly accessible online publications by Bauhaus-Universität Weimar members. The funding can be used to cover publication fees for articles and books published by publishers that adhere to recognised quality assurance procedures. The approval of the funding application demonstrates the University’s strong commitment to making academic research open, sustainable, and freely accessible to both the scientific community and society at large.
Since 2019, the DFG’s Open Access funding programmes have made the publication of numerous academic articles and monographs by Bauhaus-Universität Weimar researchers possible in Open Access journals and publishing houses. All funded articles and books are available in the »Digitale Bibliothek Thüringen«: https://www.db-thueringen.de/content/start/bu-weimar.xml
A University Library team has managed and organised the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Open Access Publication Fund since 2017. They provide advice to researchers on individual publication and funding strategies. The fund is also supported by the Thuringian Ministry of »Bildung, Wissenschaft und Kultur« (TMBWK).
