»La Casa de Pappe« Material Distributor Opens Its Doors at the Start of the Semester
The »Materialverteiler« is now open. On 8 April from 4 to 9 pm, those interested can have a look around and drop off or pick up materials. The pilot project, which has been collecting materials since February, offers a central point for students and instructors at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar to drop off recyclable materials like cardboard, wood, and foam that can then be passed on free of charge.
In architecture, urbanism, and art, large quantities of materials used for models are produced for semester projects. These tend to be discarded afterwards, even though they are still usable. The »Materialverteiler« helps to reduce waste, conserve resources, and relieve the financial burden faced by students.
The »Materialverteiler« is centrally located on campus in the »Experimentalbau e³«. Two student assistants are responsible for the administration and organisation and ensuring that only appropriate materials are collected. Hazardous materials like paint, varnishes, and adhesives are not accepted.
The project is funded by the university’s Presidential Board and was initiated by students Theresa Buchberger and Nikolas Peschel. The collection centre helps contribute to conserving resources, reducing CO₂ emissions, and promoting sustainable material cycles.
