»spacing« Conference at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar: What Does the Future of Teaching and Learning Look Like?
The »spacing – Lernen zwischen Räumen« three-day conference will be hosted by the Learnraum.Bauhaus and the eTeach-Netzwerk Thüringen from 24 to 26 September at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The event will centre around the idea of designing physical, digital, and hybrid spaces so that they provide optimal support for teaching and learning. Registration is open for those interested and is free of charge.
The programme is made up of 71 contributors from 25 universities, including international guests. Current developments and innovative approaches to media-supported teaching and learning will be introduced and discussed in presentations, discussion sessions, workshops, pitch sessions, poster walks, and topic groups.
A highlight of the Learnraum.Bauhaus Symposium programme is the keynote lecture by Prof. Dr. Armin Grunwald from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Titled »Zwischen Innovation und Reflexion: Verantwortungsvolle Gestaltung hybrider Lernwelten«, Prof. Grunwald will speak about how technical processes and critical reflection do not contradict one another, but can in fact work together to make university teaching more sustainable and create new learning spaces in a responsible way.
The keynote lecture at the eTeach Annual Conference, held by Dr. Brian Ballsun-Stanton from Macquarie University in Sydney, offers a different perspective: His »Learning Between Spaces: How Teaching Is Getting Weirder – and Why That’s a Good Thing« lecture explains how uncertainty and the annoyances of dealing with artificial intelligence can be transformed into productive learning. His four-pillar model supports students in becoming active creators rather than passive consumers, which allows them to make critical decisions on when and how AI can be used effectively.
More Than Just Lectures – Interaction and Exploration
In addition to academic contributions, the conference also offers interactive opportunities: The campus quiz »eTeach Space Odyssey: Ground Control to Major Learning« has teams and the audience competing together to answer questions about the »University of the Future«. The accompanying exhibition »(will soon) return with new questions, like …« presents artistic and research-based perspectives on the topic of learning spaces and will open up a discussion through questions, converstaion, and experiments.
Participation in the conference is free of charge. Both the Lernraum.Bauhaus Symposium and the eTeach Annual Conference events can be attended individually or in combination.
