First »Bauhaus 100 Showcase« exhibition in Berlin from 16 March

The series presents current artistic and scholarly creation at the birthplace of Bauhaus in Weimar, and shows which modern issues are playing a role within these disciplines as well as demonstrating the interaction between scholarship and art.

»FROM THE LAB TO THE STUDIO – New Technologies and Materials in Art« is the first in a series of exhibitions designed to serve as a temporary showcase to present the Weimar University to a wider audience. The EIGENHEIM gallery (whose in-house artists are mostly alumni of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar) with its two locations in Berlin and Weimar is the perfect venue for this showcase, during which it will become a laboratory, network hub, and communication and activity space.

2019’s four exhibitions will cover current topics such as digitality in everyday life, economy and social issues, sustainability and environmental awareness, and new materials and innovations in art. Scholarship, technology, art and design join forces to seek answers to 21st century questions.

An inter-university open call for artists and scholars looking at new technologies and materials in art formed the foundation for the first exhibition. Building on technological breakthroughs and the resulting social change, new developments are being tackled in art and work brought together from the fields of fine art, product design, media art and design, human-computer interaction, and media environment design. Accompanying workshops will be held in the gallery’s premises on Kantstraße 28.

Artists participating in the opening exhibition:
Gökçen Dilek Acay, Jörg Brinkmann, Timm Burkhardt, Christian Claus, Christian Döller, Leoni Fischer, Enrico Freitag, Mindaugas Gapševičius, Kristian Gohlke, Robert Seidel, José Taborda, Hannes Waldschütz, Christiane Wittig, Sebastian Wolf
