The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar welcomed new students on 15 October 2025 at the official Matriculation Ceremony in the Maurice-Halbwachs-Auditorium.
After an exciting first week, the ceremony marked the kick-off of a new academic year full of ideas, encounters, and exciting possibilities. President Prof. Peter Benz and Dr. Simon Frisch, Vice President of Student & Academic Affairs, welcomed the first-year students with warm words: »Be creative with your time, cultivate community – it’s good to have you here.«
Mayor Ralf Kirsten welcomed the students on behalf of the city of Weimar before representatives of the StuKo (Student Government) outlined their work and the new students to help shape campus life. In her speech, architect Ines M. Jauck, President of the Architektenkammer Thüringen and alumna of the University, looked back on her time as a student and spoke about the pathways that shaped her.
Mario Suckert, State Secretary in the Thuringian Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Landwirtschaft und Ländlichen Raum, and Christian Klein, State Secretary in the Thuringian Ministerium für Justiz, Migration und Verbraucherschutz, also attended the event.
Musical duo »Herzschwestern« provided a lively atmosphere between speeches. New and returning students then got to know one another during the champagne reception in the foyer of the University Library.
