Bauhaus.Podcast #8: Prof. Judith Simon and Prof. Jan Willmann discuss the Digital Society
The digital revolution has an immense impact on life in many dimensions. It changes the way we communicate, shape our social interactions at work as well as in our private lives, and understand the world fundamentally. While we often enjoy the benefits of digitalisation in our everyday lives, it also involves certain risks.
In this episode, our two guests will provide exciting insights into these opportunities and also explain the risks of digital technologies: Prof. Judith Simon, a guest professor at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for the 2019/2020 winter semester, and Prof. Jan Willmann, who holds the professorship for »Theory and History of Design«.
»How can we build technology in such a way that it meets specific societal demands?« This is one of the questions Prof. Judith Simon is asking within this context. She heads Germany's first chair for »Ethics of Information Technologies« at the University of Hamburg and, as a visiting professor, intends to open up new ethical perspectives at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, dealing with various aspects of digitalisation, such as Big Data and artificial intelligence.
Prof. Jan Willmann will be speaking in this context about »digital sustainability«, which promises an enlightened way of handling these new technologies. His professorship focuses on, among other things, the influence of digitalisation on the design profession.
