Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Senate confirms Professor Andrea Osburg is the new Vice President

Professor Osburg brings extensive experience with her to the role of Vice President. At her request, the focus on academic career paths was included in her title, as this is a topic particularly close to her heart.

»I am delighted with the trust placed in me. At the same time, I am aware that this appointment brings high expectations with it –and rightly so. I will strive to do my best to support the positive development of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, especially in all matters relating to research and the arts, but also young academics. How we treat our young academics today, how we value and support them, essentially determines the future of our university,« explains the new Vice President.

»I am very pleased that Ms Osburg has been elected to the new office of Vice President and will contribute her extensive expertise to our Presidium,« says Prof. Dr Jutta Emes, who is the Interim President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. »The two of us already successfully worked together as Vice Presidents between 2014 and 2017. It is wonderful that we can now continue this cooperation. Given the challenges we’re currently facing, the discussions on the university’s future beyond 2030 and the further development of our university’s unique research profile, Professor Osburg is a great asset. Her election is also a reflection of the gender parity that prevails within our leadership structures.« About Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andrea Osburg Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andrea Osburg has held the Professorship for Construction Chemistry and Polymer Materials within the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since 2014. From April 2014 until March 2017, she was Vice President for Research and Arts and from 2012 to 2014, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. After studying chemical engineering at the Technical University of Merseburg, she held numerous positions, including research assistant within the Professorship for Technical Chemistry at the University of Jena and process technologist in research and laboratory manager for research and development at Epowit Bautechnik GmbH in Weimar. She has been working at the F.A. Finger Institute for Building Materials Engineering at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since 1991. In addition to numerous memberships, Andrea Osburg has been on the board of the construction chemistry division of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) since 2022 and is thus responsible for talented young scientists. She is also a liaison officer of the German Research Foundation (DFG) for the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
