Project description
If architecture cannot only influence, define or determine but also facilitate, not only discipline and control, but also liberate, we should ask ourselves: where, how and with whom do we want to live? Which type of housing do we want for which stage of life? Or is there a better alternative to housing?

The Studio Building (a Typology)
The design studio is seeking appropriate typologies for sustainable architecture that have no preconceived function in a neighbourhood in the centre of Berlin. This continues the overarching issue of forms of living and working. Our assumption of what a studio building could be and our cooperation with a state-owned housing association provide the conditions for an economic, fair and low-threshold programme with a view to an urban and mixed neighbourhood. The framework conditions for subsidised housing are examined in terms of their applicability to the typology of studio buildings. We will study different types of studios and search for interpretations of enhanced forms of living.
