Application Procedure

STEP 1 | The right partner university |
---|
When looking for a suitable partner university, you need to consider the following factors:
The International Counsellor of your faculty is also available to advise you. Please note: The annual application round applies to the entire next academic year (i.e. the next winter semester and the sommer semester after that). You should therefore check at an early stage whether and how studying abroad fits into your study plans. |
STEP 2 | The application |
---|
Once you have decided on a partner university, you can apply for a study abroad place during the two application rounds. 1. Application roundonce a year via the »Portal for your studies abroad«2. Application roundafter the end of the 1st application round via the »Portal for your studies abroad«The 2nd application round is aimed at people who either did not receive a place in the 1st application round or missed the 1st application round. The selection process is analogous to that of the 1st application round. Please note: In each of the two application rounds you can indicate a first and a second choice. We strongly recommend that you indicate two preferred universities in order to increase your chances of receiving your preferred study place abroad. |
STEP 3 | The selection at your Bauhaus-Faculty |
---|
After you have submitted your application documents completely and on time in the "Portal for your study abroad", they will be forwarded to your Bauhaus faculty for a subject-related selection. The supervising professor of the universities you have chosen will check your documents and decide on the allocation of the available places. Please note: Since the number of exchange places per partner university is limited, the selection takes place in a comparative procedure. The criteria applied are academic (and artistic, where applicable) excellence, language skills, and capacities at the partner university. |
STEP 4 | The offer of a place |
---|
When the selection process at your Bauhaus faculty has been completed, we will inform you of the result by e-mail. 1. Positive decisionIf the decision is positive, you will receive an offer of a place by e-mail (to the address you gave in the online application form), which you can accept or deny within 6 days in the »Portal for your study abroad«.Please note: If you do not accept your place offer in time, you will lose your entitlement to the place. After you have accepted your place offer, please inform yourself immediately about the application modalities and deadlines at the partner university. Some partner universities have very early deadlines and/or require special documents when applying. It is your responsibility to research this information. 2. Negative decisionIn case of a negative decision, you can apply again in the 2nd application round. If you have not received an offer of a place in the 2nd application round either, please contact the International Counsellor of your faculty. |
STEP 5 | The nomination at the partner university |
---|
After you have accepted your place offer, we nominate you as an exchange student at the partner university. Please note: The time of your nomination by us and the time of acceptance by the partner university depend on whether you have applied for an exchange in the winter semester (nomination takes place between March and June) or in the summer semester (nomination takes place between September and November). We will inform you about your nomination by e-mail. 1. Positive decisionAfter your nomination has been accepted, you will receive all the necessary information from the partner university about the next steps on the way to your study abroad.2. Negative decisionThe rejection of a nomination happens very rarely. In such a case, please contact outgoing[at]uni-weimar.de immediately, so that we can find a solution together. |
STEP 6 | The independent application to the partner university |
---|
After we have nominated you as an exchange student at the partner university, you have to apply independently at the partner university. Your application will then be reviewed by the partner university. Please note: Here, too, you should get an overview of which documents and proofs you need for the application early on; For example, your Abitur certificate, which was sufficient for your application to Bauhaus-Universität Weimar as proof of language proficiency, is usually not accepted by the partner university. |
STEP 7 | The selection at the partner university |
---|
When the selection procedure at the partner university is completed, you will be informed by the partner by e-mail. 1. Positive decisionCongratulations! Now the organisational preparations for your stay abroad can begin. 2. Negative decisionIt is unlikely that your application will be rejected. Should you nevertheless receive a rejection, please contact outgoing[at]uni-weimar.de, so that we can look for a solution together. |
