Successful dissertation on information requirements in the construction industry at the department!

Martina Mellenthin Filardo completed her doctoral thesis on February 2, 2026, in Weimar with the successful defense of her dissertation!

Information requirements are a key component of model-based methods in the construction industry. They require a shift in thinking regarding both the process by which we manage projects and the way information is described and specified.

Ms. Mellenthin Filardo’s dissertation makes a scientific contribution in this regard, as she developed a methodology for integrating information requirements into the planning process and proposes a data model for describing these requirements in a machine-interpretable format. The approach she developed is based not only on the state of the art in research but also on relevant practical documents. The thesis is practice-oriented in its subject matter, which is reflected in the incorporation of the latest standardization work. Ms. Mellenthin Filardo is active within DIN – and thus at CEN and ISO levels – and actively contributed to the development of international standards on the topic of information requirements.

The work was supervised by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Joachim Bargstädt. In addition, Prof. Dr. Jakob Beetz (RWTH Aachen University) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. André Borrmann (TU Munich) served as reviewers.
