Nele Seifert (*1992, Dresden) is an artist, filmmaker and production designer and has been an Artistic Associate at the Professorship of Cross-Media Moving Image at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since 2024. She is currently pursuing a practice-based PhD at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar entitled »Cinematic Scenographies of Youth Spaces in East German Cinema of the 2000s: Coding of Class, Representation and Aesthetic Responsibility«. Her research focuses on the interrelations between spatial design, social inequality and the cinematic representation of young people's lives.
In both her teaching and artistic practice, she explores cinematic space production, production design, documentary and essay filmmaking, as well as experimental forms of video collage. A central aspect of her work is the combination of analogue and digital image cultures, found footage, archival materials and installation-based presentation formats. Her projects engage with cultural memory, social transformation and representations of East German realities and identities.
From 2012 to 2017, she studied Fine Art and Media Art at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. She subsequently studied Production Design at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg from 2018 to 2021. Since 2020, she has worked as an independent filmmaker and production designer. In 2023, she was affiliated with the Progress Film Archive in Leipzig.
Her film projects include the feature films »Vena« (2023) and »Lonig & Havendel« (2022), as well as numerous short film productions as a production designer and art director. Her work combines spatial design with cinematic storytelling and investigates the relationships between architecture, memory and social processes.
