At Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, we want to further develop teaching, learning and assessment for the future. This includes not only the continuous improvement of studying and teaching by means of contemporary university didactics and innovative learning technologies, but also the development and testing of unusual teaching ideas.
The "Ideenfonds: Experimentelles Lernen" (Ideas Fund: Experimental Learning) provides a low-threshold and open offer for the support of experimental ideas in the analog or digital space, based on a critical examination of university teaching and learning. In this context, the "idea" represents an experimental preliminary stage of "innovation".
The call for proposals takes place every six months. Applications are submitted online. The Commission for Funds for the Promotion of Teaching and Learning, in which all four faculties are equally represented by professors, staff and students, decides on the funding.
Application deadline: September 30, 2022
The application period for the next summer semester begins in mid-July and ends in September. The application period for the next winter semester begins in mid-January and ends in March.

Within the context of the "Bauhaus.Module", the implementation of interdisciplinary courses is promoted. In three funding lines, multi-, inter- and transdisciplinary courses are supported in which work is done on current topics across study programs and faculties.
The Bauhaus.Module funding fund is divided into three funding lines that gradually enable interdisciplinary collaboration in seminars, projects and real laboratories.
[a] Bauhaus.Basics
The “Bauhaus.Basics” include disciplinary and multidisciplinary lectures, seminars or study modules that offer focused introductions to the various disciplines of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar or to other subject cultures. In the respective courses, methods and/or theories of individual subjects become tangible and usable for students of different disciplines.
The “Bauhaus.Basics” prepare for inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration: They show the methodological, theoretical and conceptual characteristics of the respective disciplines. Furthermore, the heterogeneous participation requirements of the students are addressed, and a collaboration is made possible.
Funding line B1: Bauhaus.Basics — disciplinary and multidisciplinary basics
Funding volume total: up to 12,500 €
Funding volume per application: up to 2,500 €
[b] Bauhaus.Methods
The “Bauhaus. Methods” include multi- and interdisciplinary seminars or specialist modules, which are thematically and methodologically aimed at students of different study programs at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. In the respective courses, different ways of thinking and working are brought together so that students and teachers from different disciplines can interact with each other. Furthermore, external perspectives from scientific or artistic practice can be brought in.
The “Bauhaus. Methods” pursue a topic- and problem-oriented working method with the inclusion of diverse internal and external perspectives. They focus on questions of social, technological, and ecological change and social responsibility. In this way, students are theoretically and methodologically prepared for practical project work in multi- and transdisciplinary teams.
Funding line B2: Bauhaus. Methods – multi- and interdisciplinary specialization
Funding volume total: up to 12,500 €
Funding volume per application: up to 2,500 €
[c] Bauhaus.Projects
The “Bauhaus.Projects” include inter- and transdisciplinary projects that are thematically and methodologically aimed at students of various study programs at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. They have a concrete application reference, which can be implemented, for example, in the form of projects or real-life laboratories. External perspectives from scientific or artistic practice can be brought in. Furthermore, partnerships with social groups can be built in order to promote the transfer between the university and civil society.
The “Bauhaus.Projects” bring together theoretical and methodological knowledge in a concrete project. Ideally, technology, science and artwork together to make a contribution to addressing current social challenges and global issues of the future
Funding line B3: Bauhaus.Projects — inter- and transdisciplinary projects
Funding volume total: up to 20,000 €
Funding volume per application: up to 4,000 €

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is contributing as a network partner to the project "Open T-Shape - Technologies for Sustainable Development" of the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) and the HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU), which is funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education. The goal is the development of a course offering on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in cooperation with other universities.
Students from all participating universities can freely select and combine courses (initially exclusively self-learning courses for an introduction to all sustainability goals as well as advanced courses). Within the self-study courses, subject-specific knowledge and skills, methods and action spaces are imparted and the acquisition of competencies is enabled.
The basis for this funding guideline is the signed Memorandum of Understanding of all participating universities as well as the release of funds by the presidium of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The presidium supports the project with financial funding. Funds will be made available for the development of the self-study courses and the initial implementation for academic staff and student assistants.
Applications for funding can be submitted by all professors at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
Please contact Dr. Laura Weitze (laura.weitze@uni-weimar.de) for advice and submission of applications.
Further information on the call for proposals will be available here soon.
The eTeach Netzwerk Thüringen stands for the networking of Thuringian universities, for establishing connections between teachers, an open exchange and the mutual provision of experiences and results. For a successful application, it is therefore a requirement that at least two cooperation partners from different universities in Thuringia, or at least from different disciplines, work together. In this context, we would like to give you the opportunity to implement your ideas for the design of learning, teaching and testing together with colleagues from other universities in Thuringia. eTeach supports you in this with funds for academic staff. We invite full-time teachers at all Thuringian universities - professors and academic staff with teaching responsibilities - to apply. Currently, four funding lines enable the implementation of half-year or full-year projects.
Please contact Dr. Laura Weitze (laura.weitze[at]uni-weimar.de), the contact person at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, for application advice and to submit your cooperative impulse project in the eTeach Network Thuringia. The call for proposals takes place annually.
Deadline: October 1st, 2022
